Man charged after New Jersey police break up alleged 'coronavirus party' with 47 people

Law enforcement in Ewing, N.J., reportedly broke up a party Friday night among 47 people in a small apartment, despite recommendations from health officials amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The department confirmed they received an anonymous call about the alleged party Friday evening. Officers immediately dispersed the gathering that "the renter of the apartment called a 'Corona Party,'" according to a Saturday statement.

The apartment renter, Wade E. Jackson, 47, was issued summonses for allegedly obstructing the administration of law or other governmental function, and violating the "Emergency and Temporary Acts," according to the statement.

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) released an executive order earlier this month canceling "gatherings of individuals, such as parties, celebrations, or other social events."

Murphy tweeted Saturday, "Can't believe I have to say this at all, let alone for the second time. But here we are. NO CORONA PARTIES. They're illegal, dangerous, and stupid. We will crash your party. You will pay a big fine. And we will name & shame you until EVERYONE gets this message into their heads."

Conundrum: do stupid people need to be protected from themselves by force? Two wrongs don’t make a right.

It is very interesting. Many here think idiots like these should have all the corona parties they want to. Infect and infest themselves, and obviously as many others as they want to.

Yet when it comes time to flee and head south to their locality, well then wait a minute.

I see the armchair uber-libertarian hard-asses are here.

This uber-libertarian hard-ass NO RESPECT for totalitarian schmucks like Phil Murphy. We have laws in this State and country about what the government can and cannot do. I don't need Murphy et al., to accord more rights to illegal immigrants than he does to US citizens. And besides, RIGHTS are not his to parcel out and/or limit.

I hope for your sake you forgot the /sarc.

I’d kick my son’s ass if he did that. I’ll recommend you be buried with your Bill of Rights attached to your heart if your child came home and fatally infected you after selfishly attending one of these parties.

Yep. And the clucks to the Bill of Rights here would probably think yelling fire in a crowded theatre should be protected speech too . . .

Please tell me why 47 people can not risk their own health?

You cannot be that clueless....can you?

All 47 of these people have the potential to infect other people.

So they aren't risking just their health, more power to them, but every person they interact with....

People can laugh but I keep saying things will never be “normal” again.
The bloodthirsty monster that is our government has been waiting & watching & hoping for something like a pandemic to happen. Under it’s cover, they’ve stolen our rights.
Schools & businesses will reopen but restrictions on large gatherings, who deserves treatment, & using a stiff breeze as an excuse to shut us down again.

Ahh just listen to yourself. Wishing death upon someone because there may be a health risk that makes perfect sense

It’s amazing listening to the comments of even freepers nowadays they don’t even realize how fascist they sound. there’s another thread discussing rich people staying in fancy beach houses to isolate and people here are literally calling for their deaths

I suggest reading the rest of my post and no, I am not clueless. However, your ad hominem attack against me by saying I am somehow “clueless”, shows your lack of understanding between the weighing of individual rights versus group rights. While individual rights are not absolute, neither are group rights.

As I noted in my previous post and due to technological advances, people who are fearful of getting a socially transmitted contagion, can wear a protective suit or avoid the public altogether, if they choose. It is not absolute that the individual MUST give up their 1st and 14th amendment rights just because there is a risk to others. Thus, in my previous post, I recommended the Jacobson decision be reviewed in light of these absolute “shelter at home” orders declared by state governments.

But you just keep calling people clueless when a cogent argument is put forth, if that makes you feel superior. By doing so, you show your own ignorance.

I disagree. Everyone tacitly agrees to the possibility of getting a socially transmitted disease every time we leave the house. There are plenty of social diseases out there that can kill or can maim you every day of every year, yet governments do not shut down all of society to protect against them. The flu is just one example and people agree to getting the flu each and every year by leaving their house or not wearing protective clothing.

This year’s flu, COVID-19, is just a more virulent version than previous years. But make no mistake, the yearly flu has previously killed tens of thousands each year yet governments did not shut down society for those versions of the flu.

I was trying to put across in my last post is there is an inherent weighing between individual rights versus group rights and neither is absolute.

I take your point, but even George Washington took measures that could be deemed as violative of citizens' rights in the name of avoiding contagion. I refer to his small pox inoculation program, Morristown, NJ, 1777. No consolation I'm sure but it's been done before, will happen again.

“Some folks just don’t git it.”

Like you. You want to tell people how to live their lives and you choice is to live in fear and ignorance.

Guess what, you are still clueless or stupid.

LOL... very humorous that I have a lack of understanding between individual rights versus group rights.

NOBODY has a individual right to purposely expose people to diseases. Nobody....

As for your canard point about wearing protective gear, I have an expectation (right) of safety to live my life without fear of catching your deadly disease.

It's simple...follow the rules...

I've lived long enough on this planet to spot nonsense....

They can hide in their house, under their beds. So can you. Live like a rat if you wish. No one is coming into your personal hiding spot to cough on you.
