A drug developed over half a century ago to treat malaria is showing signs that it may also help cure COVID-19 especially when combined with an antibiotic, a promising new study reveals.
Hydroxychloroquine, sold under the brand name Plaquenil and also used to treat arthritis and other ailments was determined to be effective in killing the deadly bug in laboratory experiments, Forbes reported, citing findings published March 9 in the Clinical Infectious Diseases journal.
Now, French physician-researchers have completed a largely successful clinical trial using the drug approved for use in the US in 1955 to treat confirmed COVID-19 patients, according to a study published Wednesday.
A total of 36 patients including 20 treated individuals and 16 infected controls were enrolled in the study
The treated group was given 600 mg of Plaquenil each day.
The researchers found that 50 percent of the treated group turned from positive to negative for the virus by the third day and by day six, that figure was up to 70 percent.
Of the 20 test patients, six who were treated with both Plaquenil and the antibiotic azithromycin showed impressive results with five testing negative at day three. All six of them tested negative at day six.
Despite its small sample size our survey shows that hydroxychloroquine treatment is significantly associated with viral load reduction/disappearance in COVID-19 patients and its effect is reinforced by azithromycin, the study concluded.

AND I just happen to have malaria right now so this works out perfect!!
That’s what I get for trying to dig a canal by myself
Third time hearing about this...Hope it’s effective.
Go back to the basement, Teddy...
Thank you Lord! these anti malarial drugs are CHEAP and easy to produce. We can make ALOT of it QUICK.
Used for DECADES, so even if you dust off a 30 year old medical book, even noob doctors will know about choroquine, quinine, and hydropchloroquinine.
Isn’t that stuff quinine in mixers? Like tonic water?
LOL
What were the Odds I would get that reference??
I actually own the digital movie..
“This is developing into a very bad habit!”
:)
51 but there’s a bunch of old movies that I love :)
Seventy year old medical books even.
The military was using it by the end of the forties.
We were still using it when I was in.
It can have pretty potent side effects and a lot of people got a fever or chills from it.
we were just discussing the study made about it in this thread:

The link to the paper written is here:
Although there is GOOD NEWS on its effectiveness, Here’s one thing that should bring us caution (from the paper):
“Six hydroxychloroquine-treated patients were lost in follow-up during the survey because of early cessation of treatment.”
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
WHY did they cease the treatment? Thats the question.
SIDE EFFECTS? Cure worse than the disease?
They need to explain the reason.
Best to READ the paper that they wrote.
Yup. A 12oz bottle of Tonic water contains 82mg quinine.
My dad contracted malaria while in Vietnam. Not sure what they treated him with, but he described several nights of bone racking chills with horrible sweating before the symptoms eased off. Sickest hes ever been he said
Good advice!

FDA chief Hahn talked about it in Presidents presser today.
It sounds like the FDA is more worried about the tablet dosages than saving lives and preventing infections.
All healthcare workers in contact with CoVid19 patients should be taking it prophylacticlally. Anyone who gets a confirmed positive test should also take it.
Combinie these actions with aggressive testing and isolation and we could knock the pandemic down quickly ( like the Chinese did).
The president said nice things about the FDA but I think they are now part of the problem.
Thanks. The CAVEAT in the paper written is on PAGE 10 of the study.

Health info BUMP!
Thanks. As soon as that gets out there’ll be a run on it.
I took hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) for years for my rheumatoid arthritis: one 200 mg tablet twice a day, every day, with food. Never had the slightest uncomfortable side effect.
Don't know what the dosage would be for CV19 though.
On the blackmarket 1 tablet will cost you 5 rolls of TP
