Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Rotten Tomatoes ^ | 3/16/2020 | Nikos1121

Posted on 03/16/2020 2:15:42 AM PDT by nikos1121

I’m reposting this. I’ve watched the movie probably six times now. Better each time, You pick something up new with each viewing.

There’s supposedly a directors cut version out. Has anybody seen it?

Anybody else out there as nuts about this flick as me?

Second time thru I noticed that there are long scenes with no cuts, like the one one with De Caprio AKA Rick Dalton and the little girl and Bruce Lee fight scene.

Third time all the vintage cars. Hundreds of them.

The music.

Pacino is great.

Brad Pitt plays the coolest cat of alll time, Cliff Booth.

And Bruce Dern is funny as hell while not trying to be.

I grew up in L. A. so I enjoyed the movie as reminders of my youth. Lots of stuff in that movie I did not realize was happening at the time.

I thought the ending was the best ending of any movie ever made. Other than that, I had trouble getting through it. But the acting was superb.

I only saw it once in the theater. I had mixed feelings about the Tarantino “Inglorious Bastards” style ending that changes history, but otherwise I thought it was an excellent movie and deserved the Oscar nominations that it received.

Burt Reynolds was supposed to play the Bruce Dern part but Bert died.

“Burt Reynolds was supposed to play the Bruce Dern part but Bert died”

Interesting tidbit and makes sense. Supposedly the Pitt / DiCaprio characters where loosely based on Burt and his stunt double. Burt did a couple Spaghetti Westerns and of course was a regular on Gunsmoke for a few seasons.

I was impressed by the legit attention to detail to recreate 1969. It occurs to me that we are probably about at the limit of time elapsed where it’s still possible to do that. Like when we were kids there were so many Great War movies and all the players had tons of real uniforms and rifles and everything was “correct”. Now they have trouble coming up with enough legit artifacts. The Discovery channel is constantly showing re-enactments of “soldiers” caring all sorts of inappropriate gear.

Probably one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. QT is an overrated no talent ass clown.

Dern was the first white guy to kill John Wayne.

Sounds like a visit to the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington... Always packed with deep cover special ops Navy Seal POW CMoH recipients on 100% disability due to Agent Orange exposure 'in 'Nam.'

“Probably one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen”

Expand on that.

I enjoyed the movie. Nice that neither of the leading men had sex scenes unless you count when Pitt picked up a hippie passenger and she nonchalantly asked Pie if he wanted her to suck his ****.

I enjoy watching great movies many times, once you know most every line is about enough, you pick up more every time and realize how good directors are. Highway Men, The Red Baron, Ford v Ferrari are recent examples Chinatown and the greatest of them all Dr Strangelove.

Yes, now any movie set before the 1970's is essentially a "costume drama". I thought Midway did a good job. They had to use some digital effects for buildings and cars and stuff, but the clothing and uniforms were well done. I liked that it showed guys smoking as they would have in the 40's.

I’ve only seen it once, but I really liked it. I loved Brad Pitt’s character, and I laughed like a maniac all through the ending, especially when Leo gets the flame thrower, and his look of panic... It really was quite a movie.
