A cemetery in Australia has removed the offensive grave marker of Peter Pete Robert Bridge (April 1, 1986 - April 7, 2019) that featured a photo of Bridge making an obscene gesture. The problem is, Enfield Memorial Park in Adelaide apparently carted off the offensive stone without notifying Bridges family.
According to Arthur Bridge, the deceaseds father, the cemetery did not contact the family before removing the memorial. When a friend advised the family the stone was removed on January 16, he immediately contacted cemetery staff and was told there had been complaints about the photograph.
We did try and contact his family via phone and left voicemail messages for them, Michael Robertson, the cemeterys chief operating officer, told the Daily Mail. We spoke to the monumental mason and tried to get them to give them a buzz as well.
The elder Bridge is offended, claiming the removal is disrespectful. Its just another kick in the guts. Its just wrong. Why do it to us? he fumed to a reporter. I want his headstone back to the way it was. I feel robbed to be honest with you. It might be their property, but were paying for that space, so we should be able to have it there.
His son had a wicked sense of humor, the elder Bridge continued. Thats Pete he was always giving the bird to someone. He would be driving along and he would see a mate and the finger would be up to them, just joking around.

Australia was never free and they still are not a free people.
Still part of the UK - they voted to remain in the commonwealth along with NZ and Canada; they’re subjects not citizens. And they voted to keep “God Save The King/Queen” as their national anthem not “Advance Australia Fair”.
And heck; have the relatives grind the finger off if it’s so offensive.
There must be standards of some sort at a solemn place such as a cemetery. Thats because the place belongs to many families, not just one.
Its a very close call, as I see it. But if I were in charge of that cemetery, I would order that offensive picture to be covered up. I would not remove the marker.
What would be wrong with just a piece of electrical tape?
were paying for that space, so we should be able to have it there.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
More draconian censorship in Oz.
Without even a phone call?
Time to exhume and relocate?
The UK, NZ, and Canada are likewise not free countries. Arbitrary acts by government bureaucrats are the norm in those countries.
In NY State the cemetery can remove any stone found to be in violation of cemetery rules as outlined in the contract the plot holder signed upon buying the plot. Drives people nuts. The plotholder has the right of burial and not a whole lot more.
There’s that Montreal grave marker for John Laird McCaffery.
Apparently, his wife and mistress penned an inscription that the first character of each line read vertically down, produces “F***Y**”

I think you hit upon the key point right there. What does the contract say?
Check out Popcorn Sutton’s headstone. Not appropriate to post here.
Wears off, sun wrinkles it, weather. Grinding the digit is better.
Yeah. Now that needs to be removed.
I can’t say i disagree with the sentiment portrayed.
leave it. those that knew him won’t take offense and those who don’t know him shouldn’t. it is just a picture and not that noticeable... unless one is looking to be offended.
i plan to have my bare ass carved in a stone so those who thought i was an ass when i was alive, can kiss my kiester in the ever after.
it helps that my last name is blarney...
Sounds like Popcorn is the kind of character we need more of in this wussified, colorless society.
By the way, his headstone isn’t particularly remarkable. It’s his footstone that’s got some ... pithy ... greetings to passers-by.
I guess the monumental mason told them to buzz off.
Where do you draw the line and who gets to draw it?
For those who think the gravestone should stand as is, how about a picture/carving of a penis to show the deceased was a dick head?
How about a picture/carving of the deceased in Klan regalia with a halo, and a lynching in the background?
I suppose the gravestone in question and my examples could be used as examples of people you don’t want to be...for the children.
