And heck; have the relatives grind the finger off if it’s so offensive.

There must be standards of some sort at a solemn place such as a cemetery. That’s because the place belongs to many families, not just one.

It’s a very close call, as I see it. But if I were in charge of that cemetery, I would order that offensive picture to be covered up. I would not remove the marker.

In NY State the cemetery can remove any stone found to be in violation of cemetery rules as outlined in the contract the plot holder signed upon buying the plot. Drives people nuts. The plotholder has the right of burial and not a whole lot more.

We spoke to the monumental mason and tried to get them to give them a buzz as well.”

I guess the monumental mason told them to buzz off.

Where do you draw the line and who gets to draw it?

For those who think the gravestone should stand as is, how about a picture/carving of a penis to show the deceased was a dick head?

How about a picture/carving of the deceased in Klan regalia with a halo, and a lynching in the background?

I suppose the gravestone in question and my examples could be used as examples of people you don’t want to be...for the children.

Time for the cemetery to establish rules against lewd and obscene stones. If they don’t, the next one will be in their birthday suit or worse. Such times that we live in.
