When I was a kid we had both dogs and cats. One morning our cat dropped a muskrat she killed in front of the door. She tolerated the dogs as long as they stayed at least five feet away.

I guess it was just a coincidence that the Feist photo not only had the conformation, but also the color and marking pattern of a Basenji. The black coats of your dogs messes with my mind. I’m “imprinted” with the red tan and white.
Re: putting bells on outdoor cats
Good idea. Our indoor/outdoor cats have bells. One is too old to hunt much or go too far beyond the back door. The other one is successful with catching mice but thankfully has never caught a bird. The bell must be doing its job.
That’s great...I figure if you’re going to have animals then they need to be cared for well. Otherwise people have no business having them.
Awww, I know how hard that is. My heartfelt sympathies.
I lost my first three Norwegian Forest cats within 10 months of each other. Two I lost 2 weeks apart while I was in still in Nebraska, then my first Norwegian, Gabby, who was 16, and came here to Georgia with me three years ago died three months after I arrived. I was devastated, he died in my arms, poor sweet boy. I found out he had cancer but never showed signs and acted fine. Two weeks after diagnosis he was gone. I will never get over losing those precious souls.
But now I have these two and they’re both young, Gabby 4 in June, and Invidia just turned 2. They both love to be combed. You can’t use a brush on these cats. However I found a wonderful mobile groomer who comes to my home and she combs them completely every six weeks to keep them perfect. Otherwise yes they mat and you really have to keep up with it.
They are worth the extra grooming though. I’ve never seen any other cats with personalities like this breed.
After I lost Gabby I was catless for the first time in 16 years. A dear friend, one of my other NFO’s former breeder, gently told me she hoped I could let another cat in as soon as the time was right and she couldn’t bear to imagine my without a cat. So that kind of gave me permission plus I was just moved here and away from all my friends and family. She found my wonderful Zander Grey, who was already 13 months old and his sale had fallen through. I am grateful every day I was able to get him. He lived in Pennsylvania so I had to fly there to get him.
Then I welcomed little Invidia who was born in Italy. She is a very special little girl of exceptional breeding which makes her so friendly and happy.
If you can, I hope you will find a way to have another beautiful cat in your life. We never forget our beloved ones over the rainbow bridge but we have so much lover to give them. It matters.
About repurposed coolers ...I had two on the deck area in case the cats I’ve had in the past got stuck outside while at work..or they needed to get out of the elements. Not unusual for them to snuggle up inside comfortably...even when there wasn’t bad weather! HA!
14. Dog people and cat people have a different sense of humor.
Cat people enjoy sophisticated, ironic humor that’s built on clever wordplay. Dog people laugh at fart jokes and videos of people accidentally hurting themselves.
Most Feists that people are used to seeing look like Jack Russell’s with longer legs, usually, unless the Rat Terrier part of their DNA is dominate. There are six Vets where we go. The first Vet that saw Abby, my 3-year old, knew she was a Feist but the second Vet thought she was a Basenji. Similar look, different type personality. Mountain Feists are squirrel dogs. I don’t know much about Basenji’s except that according to the Vet they aren’t very friendly and they don’t usually bark. Mine are extremely friendly and they bark. Basenji’s don’t bark like most dogs.
You had a Maine Coon that only weighed 7 lbs? That must be a typo. They are huge cats. My Maine Coon weighed 25 lbs, and it wasn’t fat. He passed away last October after being my best buddy for 18 years.

Agree 100%. Mine have a fenced yard but they are also house dogs. None of mine run loose and they are all spayed and neutered. Nothing like the love of a good dog.
That is so sweet. We have a feral we tamed, but it took years. We set up an insulated dog house on a table in the carport. Filled it w/ quilts & blankets for cold/rainy days & nights. Set up a high cocktail table next to it(my husband found it on the side of the road) with water & food. She knew when I got home from work she was getting wet food too. Several years ago when it was a brutal winter my husband caught her w/ work gloves on. She was furious, but after about 15 times of doing that she realized a warm, safe house was great! Haven’t looked back since. She LOVES the bed. And loves to sleep under my arm like a teddy bear.
Cats are the other white meat!

Maine Coons are really something. Ours is down to 13 1/2 pounds as may have a thyroid problem, but she is still a big cat with a heart of friendship. She has two cells in her head— one saying “I’m cute” and the other “feed me”. Very friendly and never runs away when someone comes in the house. She greets strangers like old friends. We have 4 cats and the others disappear, but not Muff Puff.
