As a single, senior old lady who has smoked for decades, I finally came up with this idea;)
Have been smoking the most expensive brand, menthol, elegantly slim which has been costing me more than my food budget!!!
So, I decided to buy a pack of cheap, chunky cigarettes for half the price of my usual purchase.
I HATE THEM AND I'LL NOT BE BUYING OR SMOKING ANY MORE11111
Chanticleer. Great dreams, no stress and never another craving.
I'm betting they were non filters. It's the filters that kill you. ;)
When I quit smoking 12 years ago I also decided to cut down on fat and sugar.. I lost weight.
Sew your mouth shut and you will kick the habit... Although intravenous menus are limited...
God bless you, Ma’am! I gave up Skoal. What helped me more than anything was a counselor who helped me uncover the reasons I’d been self-medicating for years. Just as importantly, she prescribed real medicine for my anxiety. I haven’t dipped in 15 years, and now I can’t stand the thought of dipping.
Day 31 I traded my old Firebird in for a brand new one and never smoked again.
Of course, I was single back then....
I quit smoking with e-cigs I am so HAPPY no more smell, no tar, no chemicals I repainted my entire house, changed all the window coverings, reupholstered ALL furniture I AM SO HAPPY!!! Never thought I could get away from cigs!!!!
No, just regular pall mall shorts. Same ones I smoke
My wife quit cold turkey after 45 years x 2 packs a day.
Bell Bouy II: It helped, guaranteed. I smoked about a pack a day of Marlboros from mid-60's to late 70's, quit one day cold turkey. I'm 68 now and my doc tells me that by a few decades after quitting (for me it's been 40+ years) the lungs have cleansed themselves of all the gummy residue and repaired the damage, to the point where the health statistics are nearly the same as for someone who never smoked at all. Living in a city with dirty air becomes a higher risk, fortunately I live in the country.
Sodpoodle: I like your sense of humor, and for sure any trick that helps you cut down or quit is a good one. I pray that you find the motivation and strength to quit entirely, as soon as you can. It will be better on the other side of the quit, I promise.
I went to a prep school for high school, and there was an outdoor smoking area that was THE place to be on campus for socializing. I also had to pass through it when I had to leave the main classroom building for the fieldhouse.
Witnessing the students constantly bumming cigarettes from each other, I figured I buy a pack of Carltons (super low tar/nicotine) and surprise them by providing their fix, but weakly.
It was a good joke, but the joke was on me as I was constantly hit up for the cigarettes, even the Carltons. When the pack was finished, I did not replenish.
Are you always a kind of a jerk? Dont let that huge ego/head make you fall over. Might break a hip.
Good luck on your quest! I had my last puff of a cigarette last June, 14th, 2019. Almost 8 months ago. I tried several times over the years never making it more than 3 weeks without “cheating”. I started when I was 13 years old and just hit 68 this past November. I still have periods where I hacking up phlegm, but my BP and heart rate are “perfect” and my lungs sound clear in the words of my cardiologist. With my past lack of success in quitting smoking, I am not fully satisfied as of yet. That said, I will have some kind of celebration when I make my one year date, this coming June, 14th.
Again......good luck.
God Bless.
God made my prayer come true because I know that He helps those to help themselves and that it would be an affront to God for me to smoke again after making such a heartfelt plea.
Another thing that helped is the awareness that cravings, no matter how strong, still never last more than 5 minutes. So do whatever it takes to wait out those cravings. Watch out at the 4-6 week stage when you start feeling great, cravings can sneak up on you then. Expect it to take 3-6 months to finally feel free of it and you'll still get a wild craving out of nowhere now and then during the first two years.

I quit smoking November 17th 2017.
That was the morning I woke up in critical care, intubated, just to keep me alive.
Was that from smoking?
Sir, you were in WW II?
You keep plugging away! You are an encouragement to the rest of us!
