Not to discount the situation, and someone needs to be reprimanded for it but I feel like we couldve handled this like adults, it created a very threatening situation for this store, she said.
She spoke to her direct managers Thursday night about the incident and filed a report, but was notified the following day that she was being let go after nine months on the job.
I was hysterical. I lost it, truly, Rose said. I was driving to get the money order to move into my first apartment. My whole world crashed in front of me. I begged them to let me speak to one of the higher-ups.
Rose, who is a transgender college student, said that she had always wanted to work for Starbucks because of how they treat employees.
She applied more than five times to secure her dream job, which provided specialized healthcare for transgender people and offered college tuition assistance, she said.
Rose now fears how she will cover her hormone treatments and pay for her rent.
It was supposed to be my guardian angel, Rose said. They were supposed to be there for me as much as I am there for them but its gone because a small-town officer was offended by something [and couldnt think like an adult] and posted to Facebook.

Well, I guess this incident and getting fired for it will change her opinion of Starbucks now, huh?
Welcome to the real world, buttercup. Snowflakes melt quickly outside of their safe spaces.
Being fired should be the least if its worries. At least no one is suing it for $135,000 like a certain baker was.
Starbucks is his “dream job?”
Do stupid things, win stupid prizes.
GoFundMe is under$1800 and hasn’t budged from 75 donors. Doesn’t appear to be going viral for him yet.
Were just playing by the rules YOUR side set up, pumpkin! Dont like it? Well grow tf up and act like a human being. Until then, welcome to the party Lola!
I don’t know though if Rose was the barrista, or the manager of the store, or if they are the same thing.
Exactly. His personal issue is a completely different matter. Maybe his personal issue wouldn’t have been mentioned if he hadn’t mentioned it to the reporter.
Of course, for all we know, the manager could be leaving out some details. Maybe there were other problems at that store under this manager, and this was the final straw for Starbucks.
Whatever the case, IMHO, whoever shared the photo of the “pig” cup did nothing wrong.
What the employee did was wrong. It was up to Starbucks to fire the right person(s).
I think the dream job is what she is going to college for, and she was trying to get an internship that would pay her tuition while working.
The Starbucks job then would be how she is paying for college until she can get an internship, or if the internship doesn’t pay much.
Because it helps explain one aspect of its mental illness.
“Specialized health care insurance for transgenders” ????????
Isn’t that about as discriminatory as an employer can get???
I wonder how many Americans who are addicted to Starbucks would be happy to hear of such nonsense?
Class act. Chief Philosopher and poet.
It depends, and being starbucks, I’m not sure what kind of investigation they did. But suppose they found that the servers regularly played “practical jokes” like this, and the manager had encouraged them or allowed it and made it seem like it was acceptable.
The company may have just decided that wasn’t what they wanted in a manager. She said she saw the muffin; but she didn’t then ask if they had labeled anything else wrong; she apologized, but then allowed them to give out the cups; she might have violated company policy in trying to offer the department free drinks if they came back, rather than working through the corporate legal and/or customer relations department.
It could also be that when she spoke with them later, she said something about being childish for posting to facebook, and just made matters worse.
We don’t have the entire story.
It appears ‘someone did something’ again.
...a transgender college student, said that she [sic] had always wanted to work for Starbucks because of how they treat employees... now fears how she will cover her hormone treatments and pay for her rent. It was supposed to be my guardian angel, Rose said. They were supposed to be there for me as much as I am there for them but its gone because a small-town officer was offended by something [and couldnt think like an adult] and posted to Facebook.
Oh yeah, the *officer* couldn't think like an adult.
Yeah, was the barista fired too?
I could understand the dude’s point if he had no knowledge of the PIG label.
“small-town officer was offended by something [and couldnt think like an adult]”
When I was in the restaurant
business, we (the entire staff)
understood the importance of
police protection and the officers
were treated with respect. Free coffee
and an occasional donut insured a quick
response whenever we had a problem.
Good point. And “Starbucks” is her “dream job”????
Small goal for a “college student” ain’t it?
If this story is true, then I agree with you. Too damn many people in the world on all sides seem to be perpetually offended by every little thing.
