No country is fully equipped to deal with the next global pandemic, a major report has claimed.

Scientists say an outbreak of a flu-like illness could sweep across the planet in 36 hours and kill tens of millions due to our constantly-travelling population.

But a review of health care systems already in place across the world found just 13 countries had the resources to put up a fight against an 'inevitable' pandemic.

Among the countries ranked in the top tier were Britain, the US, Australia, Canada, France and Holland.

But given how fast the outbreak is likely to spread, experts warn even these nations may struggle to curb the disease.

I don’t go anywhere. No one visits. I just bought enough ice cream for two weeks. And I can shoot zombies from the upstairs window.

Bring it on.

Would a huge tax increase help, maybe?

We know from the ebola event not so long ago that no amount of money is going to make a difference.

Union protected nurses are special. They’re gonna do whatever it is they feel they want to do, consequences be damned. Can’t train that out of them.

Depends on how fast it goes from infection to symptoms.

Cholera is a disease that rarely travels because people quickly feel awful.

A pandemic would have a long incubation period during which people still felt fine but were shedding germs all over the place.

The Spanish Flu had a incubation period of 2 to 7 days rather then the 1 to 4 which is the normal flu. That does not sound like a great deal but it gave it almost twice as long to spread.

Is this something the DS is contemplating?

Bird flu, swine flu, ebola and so on...

We are not taking cameras to the real s-holes. My SIL spent a year in Somalia and came home very grateful for the US.

It’s fiction. Every refrigerator has a crisper and no one can use it for genetic engineering. mutant strains of mold and bacteria that would occur randomly can’t be called engineered.

Yes, you still see true starving and diseased folks in some places. But in general wouldn’t you say that humans are generally healthier and better nourished now than 100 years ago?

Absolutely. Just the reduction of small pox, polio, and malaria have saved billions of lives over the last 100 years.

We had that with Ebola. The government wouldn’t stop international flights from a country with a pandemic where infections killed 70%+ of the infected ... so an exposed guy was able to get on a plane to visit kin in Dallas and spread it to a hospital here.

After modifying my dogs intelligence, he can now talk and play chess. I call him a magic dog because he's a rare breed called the Labracadabrador.

That’s alright. There’s the new flu vaccine called Flublok. It’s made by DNA and cell culture tech from the ovaries of army worms. It’s good stuff!

Side Effects:

* Tendency to avoid talk and be silent.

* Sudden desire to head for the nearest farm crop to devour it.

* Urge to walk less and to move along in short, undulating increments instead.

* Irresistible urges to squirm.

Picture The Masque of the Red Death taking place at a DC cocktail party and you'll smile just like I do.

Do we know what Elijah Cummings died of? Was it contagious?
