I guess before reading that this was a story from India. India has 16% of the world's population but it seems the incidence of these freakish deformities in India are way higher than that.

Poor girl. Im glad they are going to proceed with surgery instead of building a shrine and saying shes a god as has happened with previous deformities.

Bathing in a sewer might just have something to do with this.

"I guess before reading that this was a story from India. India has 16% of the world's population but it seems the incidence of these freakish deformities in India are way higher than that." I once read an article that suggested that centuries of rigid enforcement of the caste system led to an increased incidence of deformities through inbreeding. Not sure if true, but seems like a reasonable hypothesis, or at least a contributing factor.

I agree but why?
Another FReeper said it’s a nasty place.
Africa has MANY nasty places also. South and central America have their share.
But it’s almost always India.
Why?

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this. So how many people are we talking about here? Six?
Two triplets equals 6 total?
To: dp0622
I suspect it’s because unlike the other “nasty places,” India has a health care system that allows defective people to survive longer than most other Third World dumps.

Conjoined triplets.
Conjoined births are usually when a an early embryo destined to separate into twins (or triplets) does not completely separate, leaving the later stage twin (or triplet) embryos conjoined in some manner.
I suppose it can be due to a genetic defect in the genes that are supposed to trigger and perform the separation of the early embryo. I imagine there can be a multitude of possible causes for the defect that causes this, including but not merely environmental causes.
