Another FReeper said it’s a nasty place.
Africa has MANY nasty places also. South and central America have their share.
But it’s almost always India.
Why?

I suspect it’s because unlike the other “nasty places,” India has a health care system that allows defective people to survive longer than most other Third World dumps.

I ask myself that same question. Do they have a lot of specific chemical/radiological pollution in their water/dirt? Or do some ground areas in India naturally contain something that causes deformities?.
I think of Africa as economically impoverished more than polluted. But, perhaps Im wrong. In developed countries, Pregnant women are encouraged to take folic acid as it helps prevent birth defects. I cant see poor women in either country taking this supplement.
Id hate to think of it as a curse. God does not cause these things. Many countries have turned their back on God and we dont see those issues as often as in India.
I would assume Africa, being even less developed than India, probably has very little infrastructure for reporting abnormal births/deaths.
