Scientists have proposed a method to connect the Earth and the moon with a cable that will allow us to travel between them, but the European Space Agency isn't convinced
Two astronomers from the University of Cambridge and the University of Columbia have proposed a plan for a kind of elevator between the moon and the Earth.
Have you ever thought about what it would be like if we could just hop in an elevator, press a button, and head up to the moon?
According to the scientists' calculations, it would be possible to construct such a structure using existing technologies. The concept is "eminently plausible and may have been overlooked as a major step in the development of our capacity as a species to move within our solar system," they said.

The moon is tidally Lockes to the earth. That probably wouldnt be necessary. If it were, that would be extremely stupid to consider attempting it.

The cable (elevator) would have drag across the Earth surface. The static electricity discharge would extreme. The elevator might even glow due to electron discharge.Sounds like a good source of cheap, renewable energy.
I suggest that you patent your idea!

“The cable (elevator) would have drag across the Earth surface.”
Which would slow down the orbit of the moon causing it to eventually crash on the earth.

Sometimes, you just have to wonder if some people have a working brain.
(The answer to that, BTW, is “no”)

First, I think the cable would snap under it’s own weight. If you could somehow stretch a cable into space you may have just invented the worlds biggest lightning rod.

The part of the cable that's above the atmosphere would be exposed to space temperatures, right?
Wouldn't that steel cable become a long radiator of deep space cold back down to the Earth and begin to super-cool the air and ground around it?

You just need a track that goes completely around the world, letting the cable move as the world moves, but still affixed to the ground.Kinda like a giant yo-yo...?

I hate cable tv....why would i want a cable to the moon? Dont think cable would survive the jet stream...better idea.
..HUMONGOUS solar powered em rail in geosynchronus orbit...get ship to it...engage...and be accelerated to very high velocites and aimed to target area in space.your ship has onboard ion engines for speed and direction adjustment...

A similar idea, but using a pole to slide on, is discussed here. https://what-if.xkcd.com/ . Many of the same problems would be present.
