I keep getting a call that says press '1' to talk to an Amazon rep. I've got phone blocking but haven't yet blocked this same number, 800-300-8009. I'm really tempted to answer and press '1'. Anybody else getting this possible scam? I don't think I can reveal too much of anything just by pressing '1'.

Search the number on the internet and read to your hearts content.
Amazing what you’ll find.
I’ve taken to pressing one on all of them when I’m in the mood and just messing with them and wasting their time.
It’s invariably Indians, presumably in India.
You can heard the others in the background.
One time the idiot opened the line and said nothing, I didn’t either and the line stayed open for 5-6 minutes, I listened in.
They think we’re all stupid.
I have a small marine fog horn that I use when they answer:-)

Friend of ours is an intel analyst/officer with an agency.
Couple months back he got a call from the FBI verifying many particulars then going into more detail about bank accounts, house, business things that eventually even HE figured out were way outside what the FBI would do on a telephone interview/investigation prior to arrest (is what they told him).
He hung up, made some calls, more calls, got the FBI on this one, called banks, etc. His business account had been drained of $50,000, title to their home transferred (they were able to stop that).
Me, I don’t answer the home phone at all. Rarely answer my cell. I don’t recognize your number, your name’s not on my contacts list, leave a message. I don’t pick up. On my cell, and I’ve got several hundred numbers blocked on THAT number.
We live in such times... I tell people I’m still young enough to appreciate technology, but I’m old enough I really resent it.
I’m looking at getting a stupid phone, like a Jitterbug, with Patriot mobile in a couple years (once they cover the part of the state where our farm is located... just a few miles yet), or have my wife get her ham license so we can talk on 2M through repeaters when needed, screw telephones.
There must be suckers or they wouldn’t keep doing it.
I just do it for entertainment and never divulge any factual information.
Sometimes I just yell “STOP CALLING ME!”

I NEVER answer a call from a number that isn’t on my phone list. NEVER. If it’s legit they can leave me a message and I’ll decide whether I want to speak with them.
In fact, everyone I do not wish to speak with is listed on my phone as XXXXXXX

It doesn’t matter if you block the number. These kinds of calls come from digital dialers using Voice over Internet Protocols. They can literally insert whatever “dial from” number they want. It hits the public switch, gets tagged with a name, and voila—you are getting a call from the house next door.”
This is a much bigger problem than a lot of engineers want to talk about because there is basically no way of stopping it—short of blocking “India.”
I simply stopped answering my phone. I have voice mails emailed to me, then I call people back or just text them.
I occasionally get calls that have no one on the other end. I have concluded that those are robo calls designed to determine whether particular phone numbers are answered by ‘real’ people or not. If so, the number gets sold to advertisers/scammers for premium prices.
Most times, I do not answer any call unless I know who is calling. I only have Tracfone and use their CallDetector app. The app works pretty good to signal who might be calling.
I wondered what the point was of those types of calls. I have a landline that cant block calls. So I bought a phone that requires you to punch 1 to get through. Solved the problem.
