Why Veterans Like Me are Leaving the NRA
Newsweek ^ | May 1, 2019 | Alonzo Neese

Posted on 08/07/2019 7:29:22 AM PDT by CondoleezzaProtege

I believe the overwhelming majority of NRA members are good people and responsible gun owners, but I decry the NRA's leadership and direction. I oppose its tactics. I condemn its inability to support its members, and I lament its transformation from a sportsman's organization into a shill for gun manufacturers...

I used to be proud of my NRA affiliation. It was a group that brought me together with like-minded people. I have friends and family who are still members; some were even in Indianapolis. But now I'm proud that I left, especially given the leadership meltdown we saw this weekend in Indianapolis, with scandal after scandal breaking throughout the weekend.

NRA members are not the problem. Responsible gun owners are not the problem. Most people at the annual convention are not the problem. The problem is the organization's leadership and the politicians that act at its behest.

Simply, the NRA has strayed far from its mission.

Today's NRA barely resembles the organization formed almost 150 years ago to aid marksmen with firearm training, safety and enthusiasm. Even in my youth in the 1980s and early 90s—after the NRA became deeply involved in public policy—at its core, the organization was still about safe, responsible gun ownership.

The big cases have been won by the Second Amendment Foundation, not the NRA.

Why Veterans Like Me are Leaving the NRA

I'm not a vet or a member of the NRA. But if I was I'd be more inclined to leave over this - NRA Planned To Buy $6 million Mansion for Wayne LaPierre - than anything to do with their defense of gun ownership.

While the NRA is definitely having it’s internal problems, I believe this screed to be agitprop designed to sow discord and further discredit the NRA.

This guy’s a plant. Alonzo Neese, the author is a current MA/MPA student with an MA in International Relations from the Fletcher School. He is also a member of the Truman National Security Project’s Defense Council.

The Truman Center is a liberal organization bound in global leadership by the US through diplomacy. As a marine officer, with roots in combat theaters, he should know above others that diplomacy with people that are going to break their word with the infidels is a given based upon their religious theologies. So he is either a plant for the liberal efforts to mainstream and normalize the sect of muslim, or a complete idiot that did not either understand or process the instructions of dealing with them and not trusting them at their word. If he had displayed this type of application downrange, he and many other marines would be gone. Another brainwashed tool for the fools.

Fine. They need to fix their problems and I am sure they will.

But they have also done a lot of good and we should support them, not abandon them.

DO NOT LEAVE THE NRA. Don't donate any money to them, tell them why you are not donating, but KEEP YOUR MEMBERSHIP ACTIVE.

NRA's bylaws state that you must be a member for five continuous years in order to vote in the annual election of the Board of Directors. If you quit your membership then rejoin later, you loose your voting privileges.

The NRA needs to clean house, and that begins at the top with Wayne "Suits" LaPierre. They won't get any of my money (other than the minimum dues) until they do. But the NRA will need a membership that will vote in the right directors in order to make sure the house cleaning happens.

They get no more of my money for $6 million dollar houses and $10,000 suits for Wayne.
When he’s gone, I’ll consider re-joining.

The writer is a member of Bloomburg’s anti-gun group so hardly a rank&file gun rights supporter. That said the NRA leadership’s milking of the organization for personal profit has hurt the NRA badly.

Substitute Planned Parenthood for NRA. Why is PP being allowed to skate from their messes, but NRA isn’t (not that it should)? Too much Leftist control and Deep State judges. This has to be fixed...

And the latest is from 2018 where la pierre had the nra negotiating to buy a 6 million dollar mansion for him to live in.

Anyone who keeps giving money to a corrupt outfit like this deserves what happens.

Gun Grabber propaganda.

The NRA has a problem with a lack of transparency and obviously some in leadership enriching themselves rather than serving the cause.

That is it though. It is a gun rights organization. It’s purpose is to defend gun rights which necessarily means being a very active part of the political process. It is not and never has been a shill for gun manufacturers - that’s just the standard Gun Grabber lie. The vast majority of its funding has always come from its millions of members (like me) making small donations.

Every town for Bloomberg (probably paid) schill. All comments from this article are paid propaganda, i.e. worthless.
