We just felt a 20-30 second long earthquake. . . From the third floor apartment of the friends we are visiting in Las Vegas, Nevada.
An after shock hit about a minute later.

—very mild shaking in Pahrump, NV—
Was it good for you?
(I’ll see myself out, thanks.)
Felt a 3.1 in Columbia, MD back in the mid-90’s. It was almost like someone gently sat on the edge of the bed for just a sec, and got back up.
Everyone OK ?
Were fine. Motion was very mild. . . Went on for 20-30 seconds. Channel 3 here in Vegas interviewed people on the ground watching the Independence Day Parade and to a person the interviewees did not even feel it, but we are in a third-floor apartment which rocked gently-back and forth with an east-west motion of about 2 to 3 inches. Nothing fell off shelves or broke or cracked.
The USGS website shows there was a 4.1 shock about an hour before the main 6.4 in the same area. . . And there have been several aftershocks from 3.0 up to a 4.5 (downgraded from an initial 4.7). Because weve been paying attention, weve noticed a couple of them.
It was great. . . Because it didnt smoke afterwards.
See, that's the problem with FR.
People here are so freaking *intelligent* that they effortless top my best one-liners, reducing me to playing the sidekick.
...but hey, what would you expect? California has banned smoking.
Don't forget to tip your server.
Right side up again, after the quake is finished.

I lived in Sharpsburg around the same time period(?), over night sometime it felt like one of the kids gently shaking the bed trying to wake us up. The next morning my kids didn't even know it happened. I'd forgotten about it until I saw your post.
My lady and I are looking at it as just one more in a long line of coincidences that show us that God is telling us we have made the right decision to run like HELL out of California next month.
We are moving from Sacramento to St. George, Utah! It is amazing how everything is lining up to show us we are doing the right thing. We started looking for a house on line and found one which we have made an offer on without ever visiting it (we actually are going to see it in person tomorrow and sign the purchase contract tomorrow, meeting the sellers asking price), and every possible roadblock to our moving has been miraculously eliminated just as we encountered it. . . Plus there have been extremely STRANGE coincidences.
For example, we decided to put my Lincoln in to the shop for a complete check out before leaving, and use a rental car to drive to Las Vegas to visit our friends. Monday morning, when we were at our appointment at Enterprise Rental Cars to pickup our full size car we had reserved, there was a mix-up at the desk. . . and due to errors they made, they upgraded our car. . . But that was not the least of it. They were confused because they were having trouble finding me in their computer. . . Seems they had TWO reservations at the same office for rental cars at 10:00 in the same name. . . But different phone numbers. A guy sitting there, waiting, who had come in after me, said, BUT THATS MY NAME! There were two of us there with the exact same name. . . First, middle, and last name, with reservations for cars at the same time! What are the odds? Main difference was Im white and he was black. . . Very strange.
The seller of the house shares our same bank. . . And her mortgage is there. That will expedite the closing.
We are buying most of her furniture, too, as it matches our taste and style, and is only two to three years old, and fits the house. The makes it really easy to move, as we can donate our older furniture and take a tax deduction and just move our art-work and personal items.
Best of all, the crime rate in St. George is phenomenally low. The entire Washington County where St. George is located had only 20 violent crimes in all of 2018, while Sacramento County has about that many a week. The area is 90% Republican!
Climate wise, the temperatures in St. George are very similar to Sacramento. . .highest recorded lows around 28º in the winter, and highs of up to 108º in the summer in St. George, while in Sacramento its 22º and 116º. St. George gets an average rainfall of 9/year to Sacramentos 20.
Cost of living index in Sacramento is 127, St. George: 105. . . But taxes are much lower. I was concerned that I was going to have to leave my major client. . . And they werent any too happy about it. . . And Apple just shut down the Back To My Mac function that would have allowed me some limited abilities to work remotely on the office Macs. Monday, Mac Daily News linked to an article on the best software for remote accessing Macs (and PCs that matter) and the number one, used by most tech support organizations, when I went to their website, was having a 4th of July sale for 40% off!!! I bought it. Testing it out, I find I find, since I know the administrator passwords, I can have full access to the systems and even the server remotely. I dont have to give up anything except the commute into the office. YAY! Just so long as I have someone else there to give me the Team Viewer session passwords. It also works as well for my PC using clients so I can handle their software issues. I just have to have one of their employees there as well. DOUBLE YAY! If I need to go to any of my clients, McCarren Airport in Las Vegas is a two hour drive, or a $20 shuttle, and a one hour plane flight on Allegiant Air for as low as $40 one way to Stockton. My daughter lives in Stockton. . . Easy.
So, we getting the hell out of hell. . .
Congrats on the things all coming together. It's very encouraging when God makes things work like that! :-)
No one shouted, geeeeeettt reaaaddddy tooooo rummmmbbbbllle!"?.
Ive seen studies that show a radiation level slightly above normal background level is actually conducive to better health. . . and thats what St. George has. But having just turned 70, I figure either way wont matter much to me or any progeny I wont have at this stage in my life. GRIN. . .
