A St. Petersberg man, accused of taking a smoke break in the bathroom on a Spirit flight from Detroit to New Orleans, has been banned from flying on the airline for life.
An attendant on Flight NK 985 said she saw him take a drag from an e-cigarette and exhale into a bag while he was sitting in his seat. When she admonished him, the 30-year old man got up and headed for the restroom, according to a report filed with the Jefferson Parish Sheriffs Office.
While he was in the bathroom, the planes smoke alarm went off.
When a deputy met the plane at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, the man denied smoking in the restroom, according to the report. He also told a deputy he didnt know smoking was prohibited on flights.
The passenger was not arrested but he may never again fly with Spirit.
Its a private business that can ban customers at their own leisure, said Jefferson Parish Sheriffs spokesman Capt. Jason Rivarde. Its like telling you not to come back to the restaurant. Once he was on the ground, he was cooperative with our deputies so he didnt face any criminal charges.
Vaping apparently wasnt his only problem.
Another passenger complained to the flight attendant that he had been drinking from bottles of alcohol that he brought on board which is also prohibited, according to the sheriffs office.
Unless they ask you to bake a cake, Captain............
Planes crash all the time because of excessive humidity in the air from vaping
“Unless they ask you to bake a cake, Captain............”
...beat me to it.
Tame by Florida Man standards.
Lucky guy.
He’s a drinker and a vaper and a lousy liar too!
Lucky guy, my company still makes me fly on them.
Next time put Saran Wrap over the detector.
GOOD to hear the Airlines banned this Vaper for Life!
Is not the same flying any more, cant smoke weed or have sex in the bathrooms. Why travel?
Meh, how much longer will Spirit be in business anyway....
Yeah, the Good Old Days....................
I didn’t know they were in financial straights.............
You’re actual time in the air is 1-2 hours on most domestic flights. The air in the cabin is pressurized then circulated like when you hit the “max” button on your car’s AC. It’s the same air being passed over and over again.
I’ve caught the flu more than once because of sneezy travelers on a plane - felt fine when I took off, became sick by the time I landed. This is why I now turn off the little air blower over the seat.
If you can’t stop smoking/vaping long enough to complete a domestic flight, you’re an addict. Get help. Spare the rest of us whatever poisons are in the recirculated air that we all have to inhale for those couple of hours.
(I’ll lecture the mothers with young children next. Don’t get me started.)
ML/NJ
I didn’t hear that they are, but airlines with names like these don’t seem to last long. Skyways, ValueJet, Spirit, etc.
There should be enough headlines to make thirty or forty pages of those.
There should be a Florida man pamphlet to leave in the drawer at hotels.
Yeah, now he has to fly on United.
Yeah, like Pan Am, TWA, Continental, Frontier...
