Nigel Farage and Boris Johnson: Donald Trump’s friends to dominate British politics
Newsweek ^ | May 2019 | Shane Croucher

Conservative member of Parliament Boris Johnson, who campaigned to leave the EU., is the clear favorite to replace May among bookmakers and party members, though he faces several challenges.

Trump described Johnson, a former mayor of London, as a friend during his visit to the U.K. in 2018. The U.S. president also said Johnson would make a good prime minister, comments that irritated May at the time and for which he apologized.

The delayed Brexit process and the widespread hatred of May’s deal triggered a surge in support for the populist leader Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party, which is set to win the European parliamentary elections in Britain after cannibalizing a large amount of support from the Conservatives.

Neither Farage nor Boris are Trump-like material. Farage sold out his old party UKIP and spends his time slagging off his old party and supporters by calling them ‘racists’ and ‘Islamophobes’ for being outspoken about Islam and using the exact same smear tactics that he complained about being used on him when he was UKIP leader. He is a guy who desperately wants to join the establishment and is prepared to sacrifice his principles to do so.

As for “BoJo” he has blond, silly hair and is prone to coming out with outrageous statements that cause offence to the left, but there the similarity to Trump ends. Trump is a man who knows what he wants to do and gets it done and doesn’t give a damn what people think about him. BoJo has a pathological need to be liked, and will always apologise for what he says. If you keep saying outrageous things, but then apologise cringingly for them it just makes you look weak and incompetent, rather than merely a jerk in the eyes of your enemies. He is also in my opinion, very weak on Brexit and has supported the EU in the past and also voted for May’s withdrawel agreement.

I’m not optomistic. BoJo will not save the Tories, nor will he deliver the clean Brexit Britain needs. What will happen is that the Tories will fall apart as many of the grassroots and base defect to the Brexit party, who will severely damage, but not completely destroy the Tories, and so Labour will win by default, leading to the installment of a Marxist prime minister who hates his own country and the west in general. We will probably have to endure 5 years of Corbyn’s tyranny before the British voting public realises their mistake and kills off Labour like they are doing the Tories, then there might possibly be a chance of a new political order, but its going to be rough going in Britain for the best part of the next decade...

I couldn't find the topic about Theresa May's gaffe, where she reportedly told her EU negotiating counterpart that she'd delay and bungle Brexit until the UK changed its mind. She should have been dragged out and treated like the Italians treated Mussolini.
