A baseball field in Connecticut is in shambles after 25 gallons of gas were dumped on a wet infield and set on fire in order to dry it out.
The hope to dry out the infield before a Saturday Ridgefield High School baseball game resulted in flames shooting 15 feet into the air and an estimated $50,000 worth of damage.
Tarps now dot the field at Governor Park since Ridgefield was subsequently forced to hire a spill crew to spend most of Saturday and all of Sunday removing the contaminated soil.
It appears that about 15 to 20 parents took turns dumping the 25 gallons of gas on the field while more than a 100 people stood around and watched.

My High School used to use JET-A to dry off the football field ...
It was put in a helicopter’s fuel tanks ... the pilot would fly patterns low over the field; rotor wash dried it out.
And all of the gas wouldn’t burn off, as they found out.
Who’s bright idea was that?
They must not know how to maintain Alpha fires from Bravo or Charlie.
A great practical joke is to drop turnip seeds on the football field.
Hallmarks of a Liberal public school education.
Charge the parents with vandalism, make them pay for the damage.
A friend and I had a prank war once. I ended it by scattering 20 lbs of pinto beans on his front lawn one night.
What happens?
An "A" and an "f" for teamwork also.
Connecticut is where our betters live!
[Extensive interviewing of everyone who thought this was a good idea, please!]
No doubt all of these idiots voted Democrat....
Apparently they keep sprouting and are hard to get rid of?
im sure these parents voted for obama due to stupidity...
Did they vote in 2016 or 2018?
Was beer involved in any of their decisions?
Sounds really crazy to me but I read several posts on social media today that claimed that was a method regularly used to dry baseball fields in the past. I have no idea...any baseball gurus know?
A coach somewhere did the same thing the other day in another place and he was fired.
HOLD OUR BEERS WHILE WE TAKE CARE OF THIS!!
Elmer, get the gasoline!
You realize that after doing that, the field will need a complete HAZMAT inspection per EPA regulations before it can be used for human activity again, right? It’s not a designated fuel contaminated area such as gas stations and car repair facilities which have extensive checks. And I would imagine the school district will have to pay thousands for this to happen, if they didn’t also have to pay fines as well.
