Store security video shows an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer on top of a man who suffered an epileptic seizure at a Speedway gas station one year ago.

Got a bad one for you. This is personal as I have epilepsy as well. Never had a grand mal and I pray to God I never have one, but it’s still epilepsy.
What’s that line about nothing can be made better with the presence of police?
yeay cause a guy laying on the floor with his arm behind his head smiling is in deep physical trouble and not just being a d..k
funny why the tape isn’t shown fluidly.
I have MANY issues with law enforcement. This ain’t one of them.
Are police given ANY training on how to deal with people having medical or psychological problems?
Stupid and nasty cops serve only to give good cops a bad name. Theres probably not enough information here to make a call as to whether the initial cop reacted appropriately.
Most police officers are first responders having attended a 40hr. first aid course.
A smaller number are EMT's having gone through approx. 80 hrs. of training. Short answer, yes they should recognize someone is having a seizure.
So the first post after mine is where the first defense comes in.
What “good cops?” Where are they?
What good cops? Where are they?
******************************
They are around...lots of them. I know some. They normally dont make the daily news.

Please reconsider. From the article: “IMPD Officer Maurice Norris responded to the call of a man having a seizure.”
If that statement is correct, then this cop KNEW ahead of time that the man was probably having a seizure. But the cop decided the man needed to be handcuffed anyway.
Crazy.
[[What good cops? Where are they?]]
Seriously?
they are out getting shot to death on domestic violence calls, pulling cars over and getting blindsided- Getting run over by crazed lunatics- going through gang run towns to respond to calls for help- They are getting the crap kicked out of them by violent criminals- they are getting severely injured by people high on drugs-
Where are they? All over America- selflessly putting their lives on the line every single day protecting folks- Where are the people supporting the good police who make life much safer for all of us every single day- of which there are many?
I know lots of cops that are first rate, they are friends. I have also known lots that aren’t worth killing. Some I went to school with, they were thugs, became cops to continue being thugs. Most are great people though. The good ones need to weed the few bad ones out.
Well said.
But as the saying goes, “haters gonna hate”.
One would think that most of the people the police have to deal with have psychological problems so, in a way, yes they have some training.
You made a lot of good points there. But if I could say just one thing to all the good cops out there, it would be this: Please be more courteous to the general public.
Because I’ve noticed quite a shift over the past 30 years (yes, I’m that old).
Back then cops were more pleasant. I’d say “hello” to one in passing, and I’d get a “hello” back. I’d ask one for directions, and I’d get directions.
Now all I get is attitude, a why-are-you-talking-to-me attitude.
Am I being too thin-skinned here? Maybe. And I certainly understand that things are different today. The cop I just said “hello” to might have just come from a double shooting. He might not be in such a good mood.
But common courtesy, it’s not that hard. And it goes a long way.
While true, the same could be said about any vocation. The problem is not 'cops', the problem is human beings.
Oh and lastly, drop the full auto weapons and military gear and training. The police are not warriors but they are being trained like there are. It's not a bit surprising they see everyone as a "threat" first and a citizen second.
[[Now all I get is attitude, a why-are-you-talking-to-me attitude.]]
Things definitely have changed (Yes I’m that old too)- but society has changed for the worse too- much much more angry, disrespectful- lots more drug addicts- and sue happy- police are severely hampered today- and it endangers them and bystanders as a result- It’s just a much different world we live in these days- but there still are police who show common courtesy- maybe not so much in cities, but definitely in the country- it’s the new recruits though that have no sense of humor-
Well. Looks like your attempt to smear the cops with your personal agenda didnt go too well.
