Youll have the best chance of seeing the phenomenon Saturday after sunset from about midnight to 2 a.m.,
Youll need to find an area away from the bright lights of the cityand make sure youre pointed north.
The Space Weather Prediction Center offers an online tool allowing you to track aurora conditions. https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/node/45

You have to come to Indiana because the other states wont permit the northern lights to perform unless they pay a special state performance tax that Indiana wouldnt consider of enacting.*
HaHa! I suspected as much ;)
**BTW, not far fetched...Chicago has all sorts of entertainment taxes :(
Northern Lights, like meteor showers and eclipses, and the Super Moon event a couple days ago are very special...
Maybe because Man has not messed them up...yet.
No performance tax? Good for Indiana.
I have seen the Northern Lights from high altitude over Canada. We were surrounded by them. Spectacular.
The FPD closes at dusk so I may park along the road and see what we can see.
Enjoy your evening.

” Update: A moderate (G2) geomagnetic storm watch will be in effect beginning Saturday when a coronal mass ejection (CME) observed on Wednesday is expected to possibly sweep past Earth. Should this take place, visible aurora will be likely this weekend at middle to high latitudes. The plasma cloud was the result of a C4.8 x-ray event earlier today. More updates to follow this weekend.”
My observation:
Sat 23 Mar 02:30
A few stars clearly visible to the south, complete cloud cover to the north.
Man... I hope it doesn’t cloud over. I am in Az so seeing is out but, it would be cool for those up north to see it.

Times have changed.

A friend deep inside the Forest Preserve has many interesting accounts involving some groups attempting to take over some locations for their private meeting spot, avoiding the permits and fees.
A church group applied for a permit to one of the main meeting locations. The clerk told them that it has been very muddy and lots of mosquitos and...Another nearby location is nice and dry...
A young single male enjoying a walk will often return to find very personal photos with a phone number taped to his window.
A coworker decided to have lunch in a nearby preserve, big mistake. He later said, never going there again ever!
