“A mourning dove dad babysitting the kiddos...”

Reminds me of my slight rant from years ago. I would take my kids out to the park often when they were young to give my wife a break. Quite often one of the moms would say something like “So you’re babysitting the kids today!”

“Um. No. I’m their dad.”

And I’m guessing the mourning dove dad would and “And hey - it beats digging around for food.”

That’s a neat photo. Amazing how the little guys blend in so well. (A good attribute to have when you can’t fly yet!)

Ducks on the wing? Sounds like a restaurant dish!

Beautiful. And thanks for the reminder of all our springs of Swampsniper threads.

About a week and a half ago there was a female redwing blackbird at my bird feeder here in S.E. Michigan. First time I’ve ever seen one so early in the year, typically they don’t start arriving until late march and early April.....

Thank you for the ping Islander7, and thank you for the dove radu 😊 I missed the window on pj’s Great Blue Heron thread from the other day, but will share my comment here - hubby was out casting for mullet and we laughed and laughed, watching as a very beautiful, and clearly Smart one, spent the afternoon with us, plucking mullet from our bucket LOL So many blessings 😉 Tatt

I haven't seen any redwings yet down here. They don't usually show up here at my feeders till about late March or early April, followed by the dreaded Starlings and Purple Grackles who quickly empty out the feeders.

I did see a bunch of Robins about 3 weeks ago, about the earliest I've ever seen those guys here.

Prettiest bird that ever visits my feeders is the male Painted Bunting. Can never get a picture of one, they're extremely wary and nervous. I may have to set up a motion activated system to finally snap one.

This isn't my picture but here's what they look like:

I’m in southern WI. Moved near a river last year. Also woods backing up to my backyard. We see American Bald Eagles regularly perched in trees at the river looking for fish. Also had one perched in my yard. When I went outside and noticed him he flew off and was so close I heard the wind in his feathers.

Excellent! THX for the ping. We have a few winter birds, survivors of he bitter cold in Northern snowbound Vermont.

It's been so bad, that the wild turkey are coming on the deck for bird seed pickins'!

Sorry the pic is so lousy [taken thru the triple pane glass of the sliders] :(

Wow, that is a pretty bird.....

I've been doing my part to rid the country of those damn English/House sparrows......But they've gotten pretty skittish and when they see me open my back deck's patio door when I'm about to shoot them from my dining room table they take off.

Yep, Dad had the easy job that day. LOL! In July, sitting in the shade with the kids beat rounding up food in the blazing sun. :-)

That’s the only time they built a nest in that spot and it was a perfect location for observing and getting pix. I was surprised how quickly the young grow from hatching to fledging. They were up and gone in no time.

Lucky you, getting to see a GBH up close. We have them around here but only see them when they fly overhead, going from one part of the lake to another.
