Wrong. You must freeze maple syrup to preserve it if you want to avoid added preservatives. I know, I live in maple syrup country. Use a couple gallons (frozen) for my family every year.

It was only an observational study of women ages 50-79 when the study started, and they followed them for 12 years. That would make the older women 91 years old at the end of the “study”. Yeah, no risk of stroke there.

Some of the prime things that make us happy went through this cycle, where they tell you it is bad, then it might be good, and finally, it is...okay, and then you never hear about it again until some douchebag starts up the cycle. Remember how they told us how terrible eggs were for you? Coffee? Wine? Butter?
Sensible people just partake, and try to reasonably do so.
Yes, anything can be toxic in the right quantities. So what was the purpose of your post condemning sugar for being toxic? Or are you just putting it in reverse?
The fake sugar is literally (using the word correctly) poison. It may be slow acting. But its actively harming you.
If you drank 2 cans of real sugar (try to avoid the corn syrup kinds) soda a day, while it not being a health boost, just count that sugar as part of your daily carbs and cut some other thing. Especially if you are otherwise healthy and slender, 2 cans of regular soda is light years better than the aspartame or sucralose. Light years.

Correlation isn’t causation. Maybe the people most likely to drink diet soda are already at risk for stroke and heart attacks.
A guy like Michael Phelps would eat 20,000 calories a day when in training - mostly from carbs (sugar), but I don't think he ever had to worry about diabetes. In his case, sugar gave him the energy he needed to perform physically. Too much sugar is subjective, but sugar shouldn't be labeled as toxic.

Yes naturally occurring sugar in fruit and vegetables is not likely to cause much harm... However, consuming refined processed sugars, like table sugar or the equivalence found in most modern processed foods in the western diet, let alone soda pop is a pure TOXIN.
Trying to equate it to the naturally occurring sugars in whole foods is flat out distortion or ignorance.
Eat an Apple, or a banana or some strawberries, you are fine... ingest raw table sugar, and you are literally poisoning your body.. its a toxin and its directly related to heart disease. In fact, there is nothing you can do in your life that is going to put you at a higher risk of heart disease than to consume frequent large quantities of refined sugars.
They are toxic to your body and especially your liver and your heart. There is NO stronger link between diet and heart disease than sugar consumption, not a damn one... yet they sell people on the garbage of Saturated fats and other things being the culprit.
Yes, yes, some people win life’s lottery and their genetics allow them to get away with things without major consequence... “My great grandpa smoked 17 packs of cigarettes a day and lived to be 104 years old”... Some people survive being shot in the head too, but that doesn’t mean you go put a gun to your head and pull the trigger.
I am no big advocate of drinking “diet” drinks, but this “study” is complete nonsense. It is based on a survey which did not even identify which “diet drinks” people reported that they were drinking. Most people who drink diet drinks especially women, are already fat and have poor diet and exercise habits. This “study” only confirms something that we all have known for decades people who are fat tend to have poor diets, don’t exercise, and have higher risk of stroke and heart attacks. Did we really need this “study to tell us that?
Sorry but your example is wrong... Yes Michael Phelps did live on a 12,000 calorie a day diet, while at his peak, which was indeed high in carbohydrates, but not nearly as high in sugar as you are trying to claim, and Michael Phelps was doing this when he was 23 years old, when the bodies ability to repair damage done by toxins and other things are still strong.
Ever seen a 23 year old a night after a bender vs a 40 year old? Even if they are the same in terms of consumption, weight and every other measure, odds are overwhelming the 23 year old is going to shake it off far faster than the 40 year old.
Toxins are toxins, they are toxic, they do damage to your body, just because you are younger and able to deal with and repair that damage better than an older individual does not mean that they are not toxic or do no damage.
Refined sugars are toxins, period. They are toxic to your body, on a whole range of levels, your body doesn’t have a inflammatory response within your arteries and veins after you consume something high in refined and processed sugars because your body is happy... its NOT. its a TOXIN and your body is reacting to it.
No, you aren’t going to die today from eating a candy bar, but don’t kid yourself that ongoing consumption of high amounts of refined and processed sugars do not have an impact on your body. Its the SINGLE GREATEST INDICATOR FOR HEART DISEASE, period. Its not saturated fats, or salt, or any of the other things they try to blame it on.. the single worst thing you can do for your cardiovascular heart is consume large amounts of refined sugars, period.

Sugar is not toxic to most cells. You use that word but I don't think it means what you think it means. To say sugar can only be tolerated in low concentrations in most organisms is ridiculous. Glucose is sugar and it is the only source of energy for your brain and cellular functions. It has nothing to do with being cheap.
Any athlete on a high carb diet will show how wrong you are. As I said before: through glycolysis, the citric acid cycle and oxidative phosphorylation, glucose is oxidized to yield CO2 and H2O which yields energy in the form of ATP. No ATP = No energy.
