Hundreds of Flat-Earthers gather in Denver for international conference

The Flat Earth International Conference has come to Denver. The flat-earthers come to discuss their beliefs with each other and debate the ideas of a flat versus round Earth.

People not so sure the Earth is round have come from around the globe to Denver this week to discuss their beliefs at the Flat Earth International Conference, hosted at the Crowne Plaza Denver Airport Convention Center.

The two-day conference began on Thursday and ends Friday.

Self-described "flat-earthers" believe the Earth's shape has not been proven using the scientific method.

"Scientifically when you go and try to prove the curvature, or the movement, of the Earth - you can't do it," said Robbie Davidson, the founder and organizer of the conference. "There's not one experiment, from Earth, to prove Earth as what we've been taught."

Davidson said he used to believe Earth is round until 2015, when he came across a video making fun of the Flat Earth movement.

"I just started looking into it and, as a Christian, I started looking at the Bible," he said. "Well, why does the Bible say this? So, for me, it was just looking into the evidence."

Flat-earthers also believe, despite evidence to the contrary, that the Earth doesn't rotate. They say everything in the sky moves under a dome or firmament.

"I take a biblical mindset the fact that the firmament divided the waters from the waters, so that the sun, moon, and stars are inside the firmament - so it placed the sun, moon, and stars in the firmament on day four, after the Earth - so how do you have the Earth created first and then the sun, moon and stars?" Davidson questioned.

One of them should hitch a ride on a spacecraft going to the moon, and see what earth looks like from way out there.

This video is hilarious. NASA Faking Space Badly In 1983.

For all you NASA lubbers out there, what is the name of this big head “astronaut” floating around in space outside of the shuttle? Should be easy to figure out the guy’s name, right?

LOL.

“...’There’s not one experiment, from Earth, to prove Earth as what we’ve been taught.’

Get in a boat.
Start sailing West.
Return to where you started.” [Flick Lives, post 52]

There is one test that’s even easier & shorter, still doable with sailing vessels:

Observe a sailing ship that leaves port and travels out of sight on the ocean. It doesn’t vanish in the salt haze; it disappears piece by piece - waterline, hull, mainsails, tips of masts - as if the vessel was sliding downhill. It drops below the horizon because it’s floating on the ocean’s surface, which follows the planet’s curved surface.

The spherical nature of the earth was deduced in ancient times. Pliny or someone performed an experiment in Africa, that measured the length of a shadow cast at noon on the summer solstice (northern hemisphere) in Alexandria or some Egyptian city, at the same moment that the sun, directly over the Tropic of Cancer, cast no shadow further south (at roughly 23.5 degrees North Latitude). The distance between the two points was known, and once the angle of the shadow had been measured, the circumference of the planet could be calculated.

? UFB? Can’t connect with that acronym. Are you talking about the weird murals at Denver International airport?

Or do it as the ancient Hindu’s figured out centuries ago by comparing length of shadows at the same time at two different points. The Greeks and Egyptians used the same method. They all determined that the Earth was round centuries ago.

They’re all at NASA - and had a great celebration yesterday. It was wonderfully distracting to me, coming home after having a tooth yanked out and finding something really engaging on the television...

>>Or perhaps the more apt description is it’s all a big joke, and yes, it is a put-on, to most of them. At the same time, it is also a lure to the gullible. As a result, you’re either in on the joke, or you are the joke. And it will continue as long as there’s money to be made, or lulz to be had.

Alan Abel lived into his 90s (just passed) and he pulled all sorts of stunts going back to the 1950s in through the 2000s.

- People against naked animals and wanted them wearing clothes (SINA) “A nude horse is a rude horse”, even had his wife protesting outside JFK’s White House asking for the Kennedys to clothes their animals.

- Protests against mothers breastfeeding in public

- False press conferences including “million dollar lottery winners”, “the wedding of Idi Amin”, “the unmasking of Howard Hughes”...

- Mass audience fainting (plants/shills) in Phil Donahue’s studio audience

I have met people in the real world who really do believe

1) Earth is flat.

2) Moon landings were fake.

3) Apollo 11 was fake, but the rest were real. (Go figure.)

4) All space flight is fake.

5) Space aliens are really from other planets.

6) Space aliens are demons from another dimension.

7) Chemtrails.

8) A few other things ...

I did not get a "troll" vibe from them.

HMMMmmm…

How did them folks determine what TIME it was at those differing locations?

Sun-dial (1500 BC; everywhere)
Water clock (330-350 BC; first time non celestial body was used to tell time; India, China, Greece)

Every 2nd grader is taught how to create these clocks and measure their accuracy.

If you are really interested, read up on the the origins of SIN and COSIN in ancient India and what they were doing with those discoveries way before anyone else.

I daresay that if skies were clear over London and Rome right now; a sundial would NOT read the same time at both places.

Water clock (330-350 BC)

It might divide up LOCAL time correctly; but how do you synchronize the London and Rome clocks?

You think? Anyway, the ancient’s calculations were off by few hundred to a thousand miles. But, still not bad for the ancients using dials, and poles. Gotta give it to them for their ingenuity and desire to know the universe. Mans’s curiosity is boundless. By the way, I made my 4th grader use the same method to figure out the circumference of the Earth, and he was off by 110 miles. The flaw being that the earth is not round.

I think we’ve gone off on a tangent on this ‘same time’ thing.

It’s obvious (now) that you meant local noon at different locations with a same sized vertical pole.

It wasn’t until the moons of Jupiter were discovered and their orbital periods well established that TIME could be synchronized ‘round the world. (At night at least; lol)
