If we cut the cord, what is the best way to get TV via the web?
firestick, mywifi.tv $20/mo includes foxnews, movies, sports, locals 8000 stations worldwide
If you don’t have roku device on your tv, get a roku device and plug it in. This will help you figure out what’s out there. You can even get the cable through it until you cancel it.
I haven’t cut the cord completely, but I went to a smaller package. I gave up one cable recorder, but still have one. I can’t figure what to get to record off the internet. Playon is supposed to do it, but haven’t had much luck with it. Really beginning to enjoy OANN over FoxNews.
I use Private Internet Access VPN.
Ok, slow down! I get the drift. Right now we use a local isp with the signal from the top of a local mountain - wireless. Slow, no streaming! It’s $50/month. I asked the wrong ?. What I wanted to know is if we went with cable net it would be $45/month, with cable tv another $45/month.
If we subscribed to web/tv it would cost us $40-$50 /month, so why not get the internet/tv package for $90/month and have a larger selection of programs. I don’t see the advantage of streaming tv
Skystream is just an Android TV box with KODI on it that they charge you more for.
KODI and its addons are free.
But I CANNOT do without SpongeBob. Oh woe is me.
Yea but everybody not as smart as you.
bkmk
Thank you.
Get a roku. Then you can try out the different streaming services. We ended up using YouTube TV, but Playstation Vue and DirectTV Now have more stations.
Ruled out Sling early on. Hulu just added one, but haven’t tried it.
You can usually try them for a week for free.
We are not missing having Direct TV.
There are several advantages to streaming services
1. Programs are on demand. You watch when you want not when they are on. No recording is needed. If you want to power-watch 6 seasons of Mission Impossible over a week-end you can.
2. Cost. Netflix, CBS All Access, Amazon prime all cost $8 to $12 a month (Amazon paid in a lump sum the others monthly) MLB.com is $125 (I think) for an entire season, with access to almost every game from either the home or away team broadcast. This is a lot cheaper than cable.
3. Controlability. You only pay for what you want. You do NOT support MSNBC/CNN or other stations you find particularly obnoxious. If you like a lot of crime drama there are streaming services that just have those.
4. Quality. All of the streaming services have excellent picture and sound quality
How do you like YouTube TV? We mainly/on!y watch YouTube.
yes I like a lot of crime, connected guys 24/7.
I’ve tried several things but my DSL is 6mbs and only runs @5 sometimes. At HD levels, it will stop and buffer till I get out my .45 and start yelling at it. I put up with this while surfing the web because not everything is in HD and I use the web for more than watching video’s. However, trying to watch a movie or TV series,....not so much. I’m over 100 miles from TV station so I can’t even receive over the air at all. For 15 or so years now I’ve been hearing that the Interweb will be expanded to the rural areas. Ahh,...that’s a lie. If Trump wanted to really stick it to the networks,....get nationwide internet at a reasonable speed and cost. The rural people watch Fox and other conservative channels and CNN wouldn’t be part of a “package”.
Unfortunately cannot cut FIOS TV since my wife watches all the Hallmark, Fox news, figure skating, and game channels...
Once made the suggestion, but have you ever been threatened by an 80-year-old lady? It's like trying to pull a bone out of a pit bulls mouth...
Get a Roku 4k or Apple TV 4K.
Any of these are good for movies.
Amazon Prime
Netflix
DirectTV NOW (strictly online no boxes and a lot cheaper)
Hulu
Youtube
Sony TV
Hulu recently did an update that makes it a lot better.
DirectTV NOW is now competing.

There is nothing to it. Those links have all the instructions.
Thanks!
