I always liked Perry Mason. When I was a kid, I wanted to grow up and have a job like Della Street.

Have to try that mywifi.tv for $20 / mo. I bought a box called ISTV. It is a bit combersome, the wife does not like it because she is computer challenged and intolerant of me and other things. ISTV has a user group on farcebook so I don’t go there and there are almost no instructions. Basically it is a little computer interface.

The thing I really need to get is a wireless keyboard and mouse interface for it.

Great thread, thanks. I like a new streaming service called NUmedia. You can watch livestream of over 4,500 channels. I was especially attracted by the premium movie channels and the premium sports channels. You can access the service via Android app or via web browser. I bought one of those Amazon FireSticks and installed the Android app on it, and have enjoyed watching every Redskins game live this season. I also added about 30 premium movie channels into my “Favorites”, and often just scroll through all these HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Starz, Epix (and a few others from UK) until something catches my eye. The service costs $49.95/month. The only extra you can buy is a group of adult channels. You can sign in to the service via three different devices simultaneously. I’ve had the Redskins on the FireStick-equipped big screen and the NFL Red Zone playing on handy laptop, tablet or smartphone. I think NUmedia requires you to be referred by somebody to sign up for the 7-day free trial. I heard the company CEO say he expects that fully half the company’s revenue will get paid in various commissions and bonuses to folks for referring others.

I’ve used AppleTV device for years. One of the features I often use is to mirror the screen from my iPhone, iPad, MacBook, or iMac onto my AppleTV-connected TV. Since I got NUmedia, I’ve cancelled several premium movie channel subscriptions that I used through AppleTV, and I don’t expect to renew my MLB subscription next season, since the same kind of livestream service I’m getting for football is also provided for baseball (and basketball and I think pro soccer too).

Still buy dvds and even vhs once in a while..plus have downloaded a lot...including thousands of old time radio programs.
Have enough to watch until I am dead.

First and most important, you must have an internet connection and a router to generate WIFI signal within range of your TV

There are several ways but one very stable and easily learned is via a ROKU device. The ROKU receives the wifi internet signal containing the programming. The ROKU plugs into a port on your digital/smart TV. The scope of the programming is nearly infinate.
Once you have ROKU, you can find channels. There are tons of them and in my view, most are not really desirable.

A common all purpose channel is NETFLIX. Some sanctimonious purists that oppose about everything do not like NETFLIX but the scope of programming is truly vast. NetFlix costs about $12 / month.

A second is You Tube. The scope of programming of old stuff on You Tube is also vast. You Tube is free

A third is You Tube TV. It allows perhaps five TV’s to be connected. My son pays for it and I get a free ride. It is important because it has all the channels we watch that were on the now gone cable. Foremost is Fox News and Fox business. (In return, I allow him to sign on to my NETFLIX account). You Tube TV has a very important feature, it allows you to record. I can record Charles Payne on Fox Business at 11:00 and watch at 5:00. I have not fully developed this feature yet but it is valuable.

As an experiment we pay for two other channels. Britbox and Acorn. Both have British, Canadian and Australian programming. As it has evolved, we watched many of the Britbox programs and are currently watching Acorn. Both cost about $5 per month

Currently, Fox News is heavily advertising their new streaming service to go live the end of November. You will be able to pay to receive their streaming programming. I don’t know how much.

ROKU has some of it’s own programming. That includes movies, very good movies. They have a few commercials from big time companies. ROKU also prompts movies and TV available for a fee.

We also have Amazon Prime as a result of Amazon membership. It is for us not as good as the other’s stuff.

Here’s the deal. All the above is in some state of flux. The addition of Fox is a case in point. You can also sign up and pay for CBS. But, both are available on You Tube TV. Although ROKU is a constant, it is adding access to programming internally. So what is as I post might not be next week.

Oh yes. there is the matter of clickers. A ROKU clicker becomes the main one. ROKU allows close captioning to be turned on. For me, this is important.

A smart TV is very limited in what can be accessed

Mostly, with streaming TV, you are wrong.

I’ll have to ask Husband what we have. But we have few problems. Once in a great while you have to ‘reset’ the Roku, because something went screwy.

I’ve heard that Opera browser has a built in VPN. Should that do it?

You’d have to try. Not all VPNs will work with MLB. I tried a bunch of the major commercial VPNs and the one I’ve had the most success with on MLB is Cyberghost.

South Korea’s LG has WebOS and China’s TCL has Roku built in.

Just join your home wireless network, launch your preloaded streaming TV app and watch content on your TV.

This is your response from an internet tv thread last year:

If you have Spectrum cable in your area, look at their "Spectrum TV Choice" service. They deliver a subset of cable channels to you over the Internet. We buy our Internet service from them with the TV Choice product. You get a basic cable line-up and you get to choose 10 additional a la carte channels. The Internet and TV Choice run us about $70 per month which is a good deal.

I've had Spectrum TV Choice too for the past year and a half and have been happy with it until I just tried to swap one channel for another and was told no, you can only change channels within 30 days of signing up.

That's no 'Choice' for me so I just dropped spectrum TV choice and went with fubo tv, a bit more $$ a month but it has the channels I want year around.

It seems every few months many more internet tv choices become available and at a fair price.

Cable tv will become extinct soon.

Thanks. We looked into it very closely when we signed up so I was aware that you only had 30 days to change your channel selection. That too really irked me (I use “irked” politely and it’s nowhere near the anger I had at that stupid restriction). So my wife and I carefully examined the selection, made the initial choice, and fine-tuned it a couple times in our 30 days. I rarely watch regular TV and she’s a sports nut, so 8 of the 10 we chose are sports channels. She’s been happy with her choice and I actually don’t think I’ve watched the two I selected at all. One is Turner Classic Movies, but I hate having to be at the TV to watch something when it is being broadcast and not being able to record it. So I still subscribe to Netflix DVD service to get old films.
