Travellers. Poor. Welfare folks. In the 50s they still used fresh stuff in the restaurants, hand’t gone alll chemical replacements yet, so refular folks could get a fresh meal.
Here is the real racism and they don’t even realize it as such.
Just as paying attention and getting good grades in school is “acting white”, so eating wisely is also “acting white”.
Because they cannot bring themselves to admit that both eating well and education are really just “acting smart”.

Did you or did you not resort to a “Whipipo” diet to lose those pounds? Leafy greens (salads) and vegetables, unknown to the African continent.

Thing is when italian women cooked for familes, way back in the horrid, oppressive years of America, they demanded everyone “eat, eat, you’re skin and bones.” then got catty at people when they got fat.
I am from italian background, its typical.

We visited Italy when I was a kid. Eating at a street cafe, I asked for s second plate of pasta. A Woman of Impressive Girth came out, speaking Italian, kissed me on the cheek in from of my family, and then brought out enough pasta to feed a medium sized army! And watched with a huge smile on her face as I struggled to make a dent in it...
Hey, a lot of that “health food” stuff doesn’t sound good to me either, and I am one of the most melanin-deficient people ever. BTW, don’t ask me about my cholesterol or any of htat happy jazz.

Yep. And not sure what is unhealthy about chicken and collard greens. Sounds a lot like the chicken and rice and a salad my mom would serve up.
Serving size - when I was a kid everyone would get a baked potato, a scoop of vegetables, and maybe 4 to 6 thin strips of meat. Dad might have gotten more. I have to shake my head on the rare occasion that we have steak, and my wife puts out a huge slab of meat for all of us.
BTW - the article only talks about restaurants. Does nobody eat at home anymore?

Well I used to go to a smokehouse run by blacks. Really good food but I knew it wasn’t good for me. Every vegetable was even loaded with cholesterol but gawd was it good. But I knew better than to eat it every day.
I’ve also eaten Chinese food. Indian food, Italian food, a few french dishes etc. Never thought about not eating food because it belonged to some race or ethnicity. That would be racist. I ate it cuz it was good.
