'Coconut Is Pure Poison' (Harvard Professor)
Business Insider ^ | August 20, 2018 | Valentina Resetarits

‘…During the lecture, titled "Coconut Oil and other Nutritional Errors," Karin Michels has made herself very clear with regard to dietary recommendations, and underlined that coconut oil is not healthy. Its superfood status had already come under scrutiny last year after the American Heart Association (AHA) updated its guidelines, which recommended that people avoid the saturated fatty acids found in coconut oil. Michels went a step further than to recommend avoiding the foodstuff, saying "coconut oil is pure poison" and "is one of the worst foods you can eat." There's no study showing significant health benefits to coconut-oil consumption. And, according to Michels, coconut oil is more dangerous than lard because it almost exclusively contains saturated fatty acids, ones that can clog the coronary arteries. You can identify fats that contain large quantities of saturated fatty acids by checking to see whether they remain solid at room temperature, as is the case with butter or lard…’

The professor is crazy.

Since going on a high-fat/low-carb diet, my numbers and my wife’s numbers on the blood tests have never been better. We both got “Preferred Plus” on our twenty year term life insurance. Years ago, I was only “Preferred (and my wife didn’t have life insurance).

We eat a lot of almond flour, coconut oul, butter, cream, and meats. Of course, we eat a lot of low-carb veggies and eat strawberries and blueberries as fruits.

We both continue to lose weight. I just had to buy a new round of work shirts. We eat excessively until we are fully stuffed and find we just don’t have an appetite most of the time. I have been skipping breakfast most days because I have no hunger.

Life is good.

Two nonsense publications in one week from Walter Willet's group. Willet was a compatriot of Ancel Keys. The media seems more than happy to push the dietary lipid theory narrative "again." Almost as if it was coordinated. Aren't 60 million pre-type2 (pre-type2 is type2) and type 2 diabetes sufferers sufficient for them?

Coconut oil is generally a mix of medium chain triglycerides (MCTs). Metabolism of MCTs is different than long chain fats. MCTs travel from the portal vein to the liver where they are converted to ketones. Ketones are the preferred fuel in many metabolic process, especially neuronal.

Nutritional Ketosis Increases NAD+/NADH Ratio in Healthy Human Brain: An in Vivo Study by 31P-MRS.

More info:

Emulsification Increases the Acute Ketogenic Effect and Bioavailability of Medium-Chain Triglycerides in Humans

This is just two of many papers. I suspect Harvard it is up to it's old industry kickback scandals from the seed oil industry. The corporate media is more than happy to comply with publishing them. Who also gets these corporatist kickbacks? Why now and why both being dropped simultaneously?

This may be a clue:

Medium-Chain Triglycerides Lower Blood Lipids and Body Weight in Streptozotocin-Induced Type 2 Diabetes Rats

Again, one of many publications pointing to the benefits of replacing of "seed oils" with MCTs.

MCTs and ketone salts are far more efficient and therapeutic than coconut oil, however the metabolism (except for ketone salts) is the same.

You have to ask yourself again, why now and why are they doubling down on hurting people?

I haven’t done enough checking to find out if this is true or not...

During WW2, some of our wounded troops were given Coconut water transfusions when blood wasn’t available. Supposedly, Coconut water is very close to being like our blood.

I used to have to have breakfast as soon as I got up in the morning. No more! The Keto diet is working great. I look forward to my bullet proof coffee [yes, it has coconut oil in it].

There is almost no heart disease in certain islands where Coconut oil is consumed heavily, far heavier than most eat, I say utter nonsense

What if you put the lime in it?

I read the rules on that. You must drink it all up.

I forgot to add, get a prescription from your Doctor for Valtrex as soon as you see the first shingle.

Interesting timing thank you. I'll take your coconut oil under advice. Rx is on the way.

Came down with the right abdomen side rash last night. Glands swelled next. It stinks.

Karin Michels has made herself very clear ... that coconut oil is not healthy.

I was always waiting for the scene in the Tom Hanks movie Castaway where, after he spent 4 years on the island eating noting but coconut and fish, he gets rescued and the doctors tell him his arteries are so hard from cholesterol he has 6 weeks to live.

“To date, there are over 1,500 studies proving coconut oil to be one of the healthiest foods on the planet. Coconut oil benefits and uses go beyond what most people realize, as coconut oil — made copra or dried coconut flesh — is a true superfood.”

"No one says, “stop eating crap, stop eating so much, and stop sitting on your butt”."

Actually, everybody says that. But it's not good enough information. And what is "crap"?

"Everything in moderation"

Not everything in moderation. Would you eat mercury in moderation, or strychnine? Nutrition matters. Food choices matter. It's not just quantity.

Harvard and Karin Michels, and the American Heart Association, are very big in promoting the dietary fat/heart health idea that has been the main concept for nutrition advice for decades now. It is very much in question whether that hypothesis is correct and there's an ongoing battle over these ideas. These people are parties in that battle and this is propaganda in it.

Her conclusion is premised on the idea that saturated fat is in fact bad for you, but the science on that has never been so clear. Much of it actually argues the opposite.
