Middle-aged people who get roughly half their daily calories from carbohydrates live several years longer on average than those with meat-heavy low-carb diets, researchers reported Friday. The findings, published in The Lancet medical journal, challenge a trend in Europe and North America toward so-called Paleo diets that shun carbohydrates in favour of animal protein and fat. Proponents of these "Stone Age" diets argue that the rapid shift 10,000 years ago -- with the advent of agriculture -- to grains, dairy and legumes has not allowed the human body enough time to adapt to these high-carb foods. For the study, receiving less than 40 percent of total energy intake from carbohydrates qualified as a low-carb regimen, though many such diets reduce the share to 20 percent or less. At the other extreme, a 70 percent or higher share of carbohydrates -- such as pasta, rice, cakes, sugary drinks -- can also reduce longevity, but by far less, the scientists found. "Low-carb diets that replace carbohydrates with protein or fat are gaining widespread popularity as a health and weight loss strategy," said lead author Sara Seidelmann, a researcher at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. "However, our data suggests that animal-based low carbohydrate diets might be associated with shorter overall lifespan and should be discouraged." Replacing meat with plant-based fats (such as avocados and nuts) and proteins (such as soy products and lentils) reduces the risk of mortality, Seidelmann and her team found. The optimal balance of food groups for longevity remains hotly debated. Many studies have concluded that eating carbohydrates in moderation -- 45 to 55 percent of total calorie intake -- is best, but others report improved short-term, cardio-metabolic health with high-protein, high-fat diets.

“Depends on the amount of beer you drink. It you stay under 8 beers a day yes. Cheese is also allowed eggs, bacon, steak and moose.”
:) under 8 beers? Outstanding, maybe I will start the diet tonight with a nice rib eye.
Romaine isnt bad...it’s like candy to me..
Thank you. The idea of a skin cream for a Vitamin deficiency would make sense for someone whose diet is working for weight management.
Whats a medical professorial? Is that anything like a doctor? And out of curiosity, do you recommend smoking more cigarettes as a cure for lung cancer?
I was in pain. A medical professional told me I had broken bone in my foot. Went to a specialist he said it wasn’t broken but an extra bone. Told me it would need surgery. Had it scheduled and then the pain went away. Couple months later in a different spot the pain came back. Went to another doctor who said I had gout. Which I did. Just saying not all drs. Are right. I now drink a liter of high alkaline water every two days. Seems to keep it away.
That was my thought. I have Tabouli, canned spinach, or boiled cabbage instead. If I'm in a situation where there are going to be salad greens, I go for the darker ones.
I don't know if she'll ever get it right. She's just so reluctant to revise a diet that stabilizes her weight.
Yeah....I’m real careful about beef fat unless it’s grass fed.
Good luck. The best time to lose weight is sleeping. Weigh your self at night be for bedtime and again in morning. How many pounds did you lose? Then, eat like you normally do and check again at night. Compare to the day before. If you are higher then the day before eat less or have one less beer. If you are lower then see what sleep does again to lose weight. It takes a while of pattern recognition. But you can lose big time weight by understanding your body.
haha. You crack me up.
Thanks for the laughs today :)
Great last point, though, about understanding your body!
LOL!!!
You sure are entertaining.
Bye now :)
Well, I’m thinking there’s a distinction between soluble and insoluble fiber. Insoluble fiber is cellulose and passes through our digestive tract undigested. It adds mass but not energy. Soluble fiber is digested by the gut biome and is used as energy by the friendly bacteria. Those friendly bacteria are sort of the heroes of nutrition and don’t get the credit they deserve, at least for now, it would seem. But nutrition science seems to be pointing in the direction of appreciating those friendly little guys.
Sorry you had that experience.
Doctor’s “practice” medicine. Some doctors need more practice than others I’ve learned.
Glad you have a working solution.
Actually, and yes there are articles and studies, they are realizing they may not know the age of skeletal remains because they only have modern markers to use as a judge. A healthy mostly meat-eating human might not show the same signs of aging at the same age as the modern carb/sugar consuming human.
Same here (and I knew you were being a little facetious). If I tried the same diet over a summer as I did when I was sixteen (having ballooned in weight after being sidelined from high school football and wrestling with one knee hyper-extended and the other dislocated to one side like a busted chicken leg) I’d probably be lucky to lose fifteen pounds. Exercise moderation in all things but try to enjoy the ride. Having noticed how perpetually angry most health nuts and vegans seem, I think I’ll take any of their advice a file it under “Probable Trash”.
Much like the Deep State/Swamp (in fact, likely a lot of the same people), there are trillions of dollars at stake.
Yep...when i stick with my primal diet (kinda slacking lately) i never take in more than 40 in a day and most days about 20
When i stick with it i feel great and can stay lean and solid easy
I always laughed to myself when people bragged about the Caveman diet, or Paleo diet...
they were CAVEMEN!.....
and similarly people talk about how well our great grandparents ate....
in the early 1900's the average life span was about 46yrs old...
I would say so.
I like to eat vegetables, but it’s not a main course.
