FULL TITLE: 'A little too late': Parents of Florida tourist, 35, who died after being punched in the face in New York, reject 'condolences' from the Wake Forest basketball coach charged in the assault

The parents of a Florida tourist who died after being punched in the face have rejected condolences from Jamill Jones, the Wake Forest assistant basketball coach charged over the fatal assault.

Bob and Donna Kent appeared on the Today show Friday and said that Jones should have tried to save their son Sandor Szabo's life after punching him early Sunday.

'If you're this good father, son, husband, why not try to take him to the hospital and see if you could save his life?' Bob said.

Jones turned himself in to police in Queens on Thursday, and his defense attorney Alain Massena later released a statement saying: 'This was a tragic accident, and Mr Jones and his family send their deepest condolences and their thoughts and prayers to the Szabo family.'

Donna responded to the statement saying: 'I'm sorry, your condolences are a little bit too late.'

I researched it for my ZimFB page to counter the narrative that TM was unarmed and posed no real danger to GZ.
A fist can be a deadly weapon and all it can take is one blow.

As soon as I saw the perp’s picture, as clear as it was, knew he’d be caught.

There are enough witnesses to this event that justice will come about.

Punching people in the face is truly an act of violence. To do so with little or no cause, or a sucker punch, is essentially assault with a deadly weapon.

This Wake Forest coach’s life is now forever destroyed no matter what. Surely, he’s got an enormous amount of guilt that he’ll carry around even if the world’s greatest lawyers somehow save him from a lengthy prison term.

Sad event all around.

"...that would be cowardly..."

Reasonable people do not depart the relative safety of their car to engage in street fights. If Asst. Coach Jamill Jones was truly threatened, he was behind the wheel of the means to flee...or also in control of a weapon far, far, far more devastating than a handgun.

At my prevailing excellent salary, my professional achievements, my homes, my financial assets, my vehicles...you better believe I am not exiting my vehicle to roll around with some sweaty drunkard. Put a lifetime of achievement at risk due to a frat boy with too much champagne in his belly? No way. There is not even ANY evidence the coach’s car was damaged.

The victim was drunk and was banging on car windows and had already punched a bystander who came out to see what all the commotion was about.

The victim was basically a violent belligerent drunk who got in the face of the wrong guy..

I don’t blame the coach at all

That became clear from another poster’s later response. The person I was responding to had indicated that the victim was black, upset at an uber driver’s racism against him.

And the coach waited four days so his drug test is clear

What do I care? You are running around punching folks banging on folks cars and being belligerent... but the guy who punches you back is the problem?

Please.

Not really knowing anything about the story except, 'I'm sorry, your condolences are a little bit too late.'
Are early condolences even possible?

In Florida, a white guy shoots a black guy who pushed him to the ground over a parking spot and it's a national outrage. Here a black guy punches a white guy dead over a similar dispute and not much to see....move along.

If they attack my prized possession, my expensive car, with pounding fists, you bet they are in line for some physical retribution. Besides I carry, and never afraid to respond if attacked first. May be it is my warrior caste blood. My ancestors go back 7 generations military.

I survived 37 years in city of Chicago.. If you are a coward you won’t last long in Chicago.

Wrong! I would have kicked him in the butt, my hands are too valuable to risk injury. My leather boots can handle a kick. There is no chance of death with a kick in the butt.

Good luck in court explaining to a judge you shot a drunk wedding guest because he touched your car.

Scene of an accident. The coach
should have tried to render aid.
It probably took the coach 4
days to find a lawyer to defend him.

The victim was drunk and had already swung at a person or two - best guess is that the actual Uber driver got a peek and opted to drive away instead of picking up an unruly drunk...tragic that the perp thought he had to use such violence instead of reporting and then claiming any damages if his vehicle was harmed. I’m almost always armed and that makes me a lot more tolerant to the idiots out there - the value of life, even that which seems like scummy life, prevents me from interacting where disengaging is an option.

A drunk does not need to be shot. A good swift kick to the derriere will suffice.

In places like Chicago where I spent 37 years of my life, you can not let bullies intimidate you. If you act cowardly with a bully, he will bully you more.

As I explained in previous posts, I would not hit the drunk with a mighty blow to his head using my fist. First, it risks severe injury to my right hand which is very vital part of the body. Second, it could cause concussion of brain of the drunk person. A kick to the butt is safe and effective for both.

"...bully..."

A bully, huh?

The (now) dead guy was an effeminate-looking drunk wedding guest who was staggering down the street so sloshed that he didn’t even know what his Uber car looked like.

Coach Jones was behind the wheel of a modern 4000-lb vehicle. Why not just drive away rather than make a 60-second, life-altering decision that has now prevented him from earning MILLIONS of dollars as a Division I Head Basketball Coach? Are you aware of their salaries?
