FULL TITLE: 'A little too late': Parents of Florida tourist, 35, who died after being punched in the face in New York, reject 'condolences' from the Wake Forest basketball coach charged in the assault
The parents of a Florida tourist who died after being punched in the face have rejected condolences from Jamill Jones, the Wake Forest assistant basketball coach charged over the fatal assault.
Bob and Donna Kent appeared on the Today show Friday and said that Jones should have tried to save their son Sandor Szabo's life after punching him early Sunday.
'If you're this good father, son, husband, why not try to take him to the hospital and see if you could save his life?' Bob said.
Jones turned himself in to police in Queens on Thursday, and his defense attorney Alain Massena later released a statement saying: 'This was a tragic accident, and Mr Jones and his family send their deepest condolences and their thoughts and prayers to the Szabo family.'
Donna responded to the statement saying: 'I'm sorry, your condolences are a little bit too late.'

It’s always been one of the hazards of being dressed for work, appearing responsible, and doing a little shopping after work or during a lunch break. Even if it somehow offended you, punching somebody in the face over it wouldn’t likely be your response. That’s kind of why I suspect the “coach” felt insulted and as a PBM (Proud Black Man) he just had to teach that cracker a lesson.
Good afternoon.
“Journalism is dead.”
My guess is it died circa 2008.
5.56mm
This definitely adds a little to the narrative.
Using a bike lock as a weapon would have exonerated him
“If someone pounds fists on my car, I am likely to respond in a physical manner, and not take it quietly like a coward.”
A man knows when it is proper an reasonable to apply force. Smudging your wax job is not such a reasonable time.
A man also knows what cowardice is. Not engaging with violence at a minor slight does not equate to “cowardice”.
Why is your manhood so stunted as to not know the difference? Did you not have a father at home?
You suffer the same deficit of manhood as the original poster. Why don’t you know better?
Know what?
How to behave like a man?
Szabo (who is white)...
Jones (who is black) then gets out of his car and punches him.
Sounds like a hate crime to me! And manslaughter.
Whatever.

And that sure doesn’t sound like a post from someone with ‘Blessings’ as their tagline?
Many here would be quick to take away someone’s freedom based on skin color alone. Before you condemn the black man maybe you would enjoy the original story:
From the original story:
The incident came after Szabo (the deceased who was drunk and banging on car windows)) punched a resident who came outside amid the ruckus, according to The Post, which led Jones to act.
We were taught in PUBLIC School in 1972, 7th grade, that at our age and physical ability we could kill somebody by punching them hard enough.
2nd Degree Murder
Hate Crime
30 years.
Pretty much so. The killer was also was a much taller and fitter man, so figures I have a right to punch out this guy’s lights. Would have done the same to a black man.
90% blame on the killer. 10% blame on the drunk guy, now dead.
Agree and am OK with 30 years because he will be out in 20 and can coach B-Ball again. He can sharpen his B-Ball skills in prison where I promise you he will not be sucker punching anyone.
Depends on how hard he was pounding. If he was pounding hard, when I am just waiting for the light to change, he needs to be taught a lesson that other people’s property is sacrosanct. If he was drunk as the article says, he most likely was not under control.
However if with punch to his nose if he falls and passes out, I would call for help, and not drive away.
Exactly. Lets here the whole story.
Amen.
Sounds like it was dark at the time of incident. The victim was so drunk, he could not recognize the Uber car. Uber sends you description of the car & license number and driver's name and photo.
If a stranger is banging on your expensive car, should you just ignore it and quietly drive away? That would be cowardly. No one has the right to bang on your car unprovoked.
All that said, if I got out of the car and punched the offender, and if he falls to the ground and is unresponsive, I would call for help. The coach is guilty of hit and run at the least.
No, the DA would correct. Ability, intent, imminence. The 6’2” 230 young man who yells that he is gonna stomp you has not met the test, yet. Now, if he is five feet away and begins closing in, fire center mass.
