On Thursday, August 9, 2018, a resident of a Lake Tillery development on the western side of Montgomery County went missing while taking her daily walk. After several hours the 66 year old female did not return home. Her husband called neighbors and friends who searched the area. They were unable to locate her and call 911. Sheriff’s deputies and search and rescue were sent to the scene. Within hours she was discovered deceased on the side of an unused road within the development. An investigation was conducted with the assistance of the Medical Examiner’s Office, NC Wildlife Resources Commission and Animal Control. The investigation revealed she had been attacked by dogs. Law enforcement searched the neighborhood and located two pit bull dogs with physical evidence reflecting the dog’s involvement. The animals were taken into custody by Animal Control and are being quarantined. The owner of the dogs is cooperating with officials and the matter is still under investigation and review by the District Attorney’s Office. The name of the victim is being withheld until family members can be notified. The victim is being sent to the NC Medical Examiner’s Office in Raleigh for an autopsy. “This is a very tragic event, which has deeply affected the family, friends, deputies and first responders, our thoughts and prayers are being extended to all.”

Now, if dog owners were put down along with dogs that caused human fatalities, I think we’d see a lot fewer of them.
We may never know the dogs’ motives.
One reason I carry pepper-mace spray with me while walking. We live out in the countryside on a road that isn’t busy except in the morning and afternoon. There are also coyotes and have heard sightings of a cougar near the creek beds.

I do not hate any individuals but I hate ALL pit bulls.
And the dogs were just turning their lives around.
Maybe the dogs were on some kind of SSRI Drug.
Hate is unnecessary. It is a waste of energy and can be destructive, not only to the object of its focus, but to the one who engages in it.
I am always curious and often surprised by owners of pit bulls.
I love dogs. I’ve seen many pit bulls at dog parks and they are mostly sweet and wonderful dogs, but not all of them.
I understand how dog owners love their dogs even their pit bulls.
But from my limited observations of pit bulls at dog parks, I’ve noticed they are different sizes. Some of them are quite large in the jaw form. I sense by looking those large jaw pit bulls can kill. These large jaw pits also seem to be more bullying and on edge.
Back to owners attitudes, pit bull owners love their dogs, A few of the owners will say the stories of pit bulls attacking and maiming people and other dogs are overblown, are a myth. I disagree.
I think some pit bulls are downright dangerous, it’s just not easy to always tell. But certainly the larger ones with the large jaws seem genetically programmed to clamp down on something and that something is going to be mighty hurt or dead when it happens.

Pepper spray will be useless in a pit bull attack.
That is untrue. Hate is a worthy emotion. Hate the pedophile. Hate the Nazis. Hate the murderer. Hate the animal abuser. You get that, don’t you? What you just said about not hating is simply do-good sounding drivel but it’s not realistic and it’s not moral.
