ANCHORAGE, Alaska >> Alaskas last two Blockbuster video stores are calling it quits, leaving just one store open in the United States.
The stores in Anchorage and Fairbanks will close for rentals after Sunday night and reopen Tuesday for video liquidation sales through the end of August, said Kevin Daymude, general manager of Blockbuster Alaska.

One of ours is a public library, they even have a video section painted like blockbuster with a reference to blockbuster. That particular one flooded during Katrina, was looted (LOL!) and has been a furniture store and a fitness center as well. Of the other two one was split up and is a restaurant on one side and a cell phone store on the other. The 3rd one I don’t remember what it is.
Never went to one. Back when I still rented, I always supported the local guys.
West Coast Video?
Faces of Death is definitely a show to watch when you are younger. If you watch it when you are older you may have a problem.
No.
Pun intended?
The final store will bend but not break.
The closures will leave the Blockbuster in Bend, Oregon, as the sole holdout.Wonder what Sandis business model is since she intends to stay open.
How exciting, said the Bend stores general manager Sandi Harding. It might end up being a little chaotic for a couple of weeks.
I take it you knew someone who had the same thing happen?
Its original mail dvds was huge. The streaming came later and it has gotten worse over time as more streaming services fight over content.
Yes family member
I listened to that song on my way to work this morning.
RIP Mr. Becker.

I do too. But not Blockbuster. The b@st@rds purposefully targeted and destroyed myriad mom and pop stores.
“Remember: Ford no longer builds cars.”
They still seem to make the Fiesta, Fusion, Mustang and Taurus.
Yes, perhaps a capital B would have been more telling.
The thing is that half of the footage is fake, the other half is news footage and a tiny portion may be from crime scenes. It was like the Italian cannibal movie, painfully fake yet still causes investigations in the US.
“Opops i forgot to return Plan 9 From Outer Space and I spit On Your Grave.”
At least the biz is dead and unable to collect.
In 2014 the local library charged me a $10 fine for a video I’d returned late in 1996.
Cannibal Holocaust. Making a horror movie that realistic without all the special effects,CGI, and studios that hollyweird has at hand now is a lost art. The director was actually arrested and investigated for murder for that one.
My in-laws are devastated! They dont do the high speed Netflix and Hulu thing, now all they will have is the library or purchase movies. I know there ar quite a few people around Fairbanks who are in the same boat.
Blockbuster Video. What a difference.
Too bad. Perhaps they can reach out to others and start a sharing club, of old DVDs or tapes. Similar to people trading or sharing books. Side note: I no longer share DVDs, some people don't reciprocate or return them.
