She is partially right. The male of the species generally has the task of acquiring and defending the territory which his mate and offspring will need. His success in doing so demonstrates his fitness.

A couple of centuries ago, American men set out and risked their lives in order to carve out their farmsteads in the wilderness. The 21st Century will have men risking their lives to acquire territory far enough away from “cultural enrichment” to make it a viable place to raise a family.
