Ancient Frogs Might Have Eaten Dinosaurs

Beelzebufo ampinga was a beach-ball sized frog with a bite comparable to that of a lion.

In the past, ancient frogs might have snacked on dinosaurs.

Popular Science reports that there was once a “giant frog” that walked the earth called Beelzebufo ampinga. Named after an ancient deity referred to as “Lord of the Flies,” the massive amphibian is thought to have lived in Madagascar around 70 million years ago.

The “beach ball-sized” frog has jaws that are “powerful enough to obliterate small dinosaurs.” Scientists first discovered the frog in 2008 and speculated that it might have used its powerful mouth to dine on small vertebrates. Now, they’ve found proof: By calculating the jaw force of one of the frog’s modern relatives, they were able to determine that Beelzebufo ampinga’s bite would have been comparable to the bite of a lion.

While we might all equate frogs with being fly eaters, many species of frog will actually eat anything that can fit in their mouth, including rodents, and perhaps in this ancient case, dinosaurs.

That means they’d definitely be strong enough to chow down on some smaller dinosaurs.

I’m glad it is extinct... If a frog can eat a dinosaur... I’m smaller than a dinosaur...

This gives Red Skelton’s poem, “Frogs!” a whole new meaning!

There is a big, pale skinned frog here in central Florida that likes to eat the Anole lizards.

Here is the bugger, a Cuban tree frog. Interestingly, both this frog and the Anole lizard on it's menu, are invasive species arriving in Florida from Cuba.

There was a movie that came out in 1972 called “Frogs”. The poster had a big bullfrog with a human hand hanging out of its mouth. If there’s a frog around, the end is closer than you think!!! :-D

id say its proof positive that the good ol’ boys in NT have a sense of humor.

Well, them good ol' boys did a damn good job of fooling the paleontologists. They've never been able to successfully refute the validity of that find.

In fact, the rock bed containing the tracks was originally partially covered by a large bluff of younger rock and stone. When the paleontologists dug into it to reveal more of the track bearing layer, they discovered that the tracks continued underneath.

Texans can be ingenious, but not quite that ingenious.

"id say its proof positive that the good ol’ boys in NT have a sense of humor."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'd say that it is proof positive that a fraudster named, "Reverend" Carl Baugh came to Glen Rose, intending to make his fortune off of gullible tourists.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The dinosaur track-bearing layer is beneath a 14"-18" thick limestone layer.

My wife's family is from Glen Rose. One Sunday afternoon, my devout, but gullible, FIL drove me out to the McFall site on the Paluxy River to show me where he had "used [his] Cat trackloader this week" to remove that layer "to help that 'Man of GOddd' prove that man walked with the dinosaurs".

He proudly showed me a big, limestone "overburden" slab that he and his Cat had flipped over and pushed toward the south bank. On its vertical face was mounted an (obviously, pre-cast) bronze plaque, proclaiming:

"Bauanthropus giganticus Tracks"

(BTW, no one I know accuses "Reverend" Carl Baugh -- who built, and [AFAIK] still owns and operates the nearby [for-profitable-fee-only] "Creation Museum" -- of being modest...)

We were in a drought, but atop (the underside of) that slab, I spotted a puddle of muddy water -- shaped roughly like an oversized human footprint. (The Paluxy is crystal clear...)

I felt the inside of it, and... voila!" -- fresh, sharp chisel marks, obscured by the mud! FIL didn't believe me -- until I scooped out most of the water, and asked him to see and feel the evidence, for himself.

Then, I "lowered the boom" on Baugh:

  1. [TXnMA:] "You're sure sure you flipped that slab over? [smile and "Yep!"]

  2. [TXnMA:] "Then -- that surface with the 'footprint' [now ~16" above the "tracks layer"] was facing downwards?" [frowning nod]

  3. [TXnMA:] "SO... ol' so-called 'Baunthropus giganticus' walked with his feet pointed at the sky -- right"? [Loooong silence, staring at the ground...]

There's much more to the story (including another "man track" debunked that day) -- but, the trip ended with:

[TXnMA:] "The God I worship and His Word I read have no need of fakers and liars to "'prove' that what they say is true! This place reeks of evil! I'm outta here!!" {heads for the truck..}

FIL stands there a few minutes longer, looking around and shaking his head -- then gets in the truck and heads home.

~~~~~~~~~
That was one long, quiet ride back to "the home place"...
It’s not true because it couldn’t be true.
So there.
I have seen some lilypads in the tropics that are at least 1 yard in diameter.
I take it back—more than 2 yards in diameter!
