COLUMBIA, SC CSX has upped the reward it is offering for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for the August 5th train accident in Lugoff.
In an announcement on Friday, the CSX police said the reward is now $25,000, up from the initial $5,000 reward announced earlier in the week.
Investigators believe that the train hit a yellow bulldozer that was left on the tracks, resulting in 12 of 18 cars and one of the two locomotives derailing. The accident occurred around 1 a.m. on August 5th near Highway 601 and Medfield Road in Lugoff.
Although no one was injured in the accident, the tracks sustained “major damage” and damage was done to a nearby warehouse, authorities said at the time.

The dozer doesn’t have any type of identifying numbers on it that can be traced?
She refers to it repeatedly as an “accident”. It wasn’t. A “crash” would obviously be accurate, and possibly “sabotage”, but not an “accident”.

Not much of a help. It's easy to start a bulldozer and one could have been parked nearby. Even if the bulldozer has a functioning key-type ignition switch, it is simple to bypass. I grew up in a rural area and we kids, 9 and 10 years old, used to take bulldozers for a "spin" every now and then, LOL

What's funny is that for all the mischief and pranks we pulled as boys back in the day, we never did anything destructive. We had "fun" but it would never occur to us to do anything destructive (except to model aircraft and battleships!).
They all have Serial Numbers. Might even have a decal on it from some construction company, or SC DOT. They can trace it IF they WANT to.
You don’t just misplace a bull dozer. The things are pretty easy to start up without a key. Especially the older ones. Firing one up and running it around is pretty easy but loading it up, hauling it off and hiding it is not. You can haul one around for a bit pretty easy since the description is pretty generic. “Be on the lookout for a yellow Caterpillar D-6C last seen on a lowboy.”
Our Sheriff was out one day with a drone searching the woods and isolated fields for a stolen bull dozer he was pretty sure was stashed within about a mile radius. Couldn’t see it. Hidden well or not there.
The question isn’t who it belongs to or where it came from. The question is who put it on the tracks.

Oh good grief. Finding where it was taken from is easy, just follow the tracks. As to evidence about who took it from where it was taken perhaps but doubtful. Somebody just walked or drove by at night, fired the thing up and drove it onto the tracks and left. Random.
You can hardly ever find or fix random.
