The Scarecrow isn't a scarecrow, but he is introduced in a crucifixion pose. The tin man isn't The Tin Man, either, but he is the result of a horrifying, Frankenstein-style experiment. The lions aren't cowardly--the citizens of Oz speak of them as if they'll tear your throat out. The Munchkins have swapped out dandy fashions for tribal facepaint. The Wicked Witch Of The West runs a brothel. Welcome to Emerald City, the dark reimagining of L. Frank Baum's Oz stories that debuts on NBC after a nearly three-and-a-half-year trek down the yellow-brick development road.

When they made it they thought Hildebeeste would be President.
FWIW.
Wow. You and I are of a kind.
I know conservatives who have seen it and liked it.
I would pick up and what you picked up right away and would leave.
Heck, I’m afraid to spend 6 bucks for a movie on Amazon because odds are if there’s 2 characters, one will be a minority, cross dressing, gay environmentalist and the other will be a bad white guy.
It’s nice you had that experience as a kid.
Only musical I REALLY liked was Phantom. Have seen it many times.
Regret not seeing Yul Brynner in The King and I.
No Kathleen Robertson.
No Kathleen, no me.
“All About Eve” is my hands-down favorite movie.
Casablanca is on of Bogies best, I still love “Petrified Forest” myself.
Citizen Kane is ok... just ok as far as I’m concerned.
I would call it good, not great.
EIGHTH GENERATION!!!
Good Lord!!
My pop was born in Italy.
Mom was born here.
I just really like Orson Welles.
Never seen Petrified Forest. Need to.
LOVE Betty Davis.
My thoughts (on Wicked), exactly.
Wish I would’ve saved my $$.
It recently came (on tour), here, and we gave those tickets away.
My wife and I only made it for 20 minutes.
We normally like this kind of stuff - Grimm, Once Upon A Time, etc., but gave up on this one.
Wizard of Oz, let me get my Dark Side of the Moon cd.
Ooohhh... all the silliness of ST:TNG!
I turned it off about halfway through. Dorothy appears to be an illegal alien living in Kansas. She is apparently a nurse at age 20 and is shown stealing what are probably opioids for her aunt who does not have health insurance. Since you need a bachelor’s degree in order to be a nurse, Dorothy must be a genius since she is already working at a hospital at the age of 20. The wicked witch of the east Iwhom Dorothy kills) is black, and her two sister witches are white. The straw man is found hanging on a cross and has a British accent. All I could think was WTF.
It was a bastardization of a classic, wholesome movie.
They already did this a few years ago with “Tin Man,” starring Zoey Deschanel as Dorothy.
It was crap then, I’m guessing it’s crap now.
I own the 75th anniversary edition of Oz on dvd.
It has the movie, a frame-by-frame reconstruction of the original three color negatives, along with a fully reconstructed soundtrack - I never say this, but it’s awesome!
Also has a bunch of shorts on making the film and the reason for the color techniques used, I guess a few of the munchkins were practically blinded and most definitely sunburned by the amount of light they needed.
Has an excellent film with John Ritter about L. Frank Baum and what led him to write the wizard. turns out Wizard is but a short piece of a bunch of Oz pieces that Baum wrote.
I think Baum wanted something strange and mysterious, not dark and threatening.
Ay least the dogg is cool. A Terv, I think.
Ya should a read the book. I tried 3 times b4 I gave it. It just failed to grip.
Also notice that Dorothy, the all American Kansas girl, is played by a very Hispanic looking actress.
It has my interest peaked. I’ll give another episode or three before I jump to any conclusions. It’s definitely different and I just ignore the fact that they seem to make the white guys the bad guys these days. More of their social engineering crap I suppose. I just look past it all and think about the story line.
Then again what do I know; I like all those comic book movies because as a kid I was an avid comic book reader I guess.
Huh- not a chance in Hell.
Huh- not a chance in Hell.
My teenage daughter recorded it, so I watched it with her. It’s dull pacing, grim visuals and several social engineering changes failed to excite. It’s clear that they’re trying to capture a Game of Thrones vibe with the story. They missed the mark.
There are a few aspects that I find interesting, but the cast are too weak to support. Also, I can’t believe I didn’t recognize Vincent D’Onofrio.
I saw Zero Mostel in Fiddler on the Roof. I saw Pearl Bailey and Cab Calloway in HELLO DOLLY. I saw Richard Burton in EQUUS. Was blessed to live in NY. I had a class in High school that would take us to NEW YORK once a month for a Wednesday matinee. It’s one of the reasons I decided to major in theater when I went to college.
