The Drudge Report is highlighting Free Republic in the top-rated website's Fourth of July weekend format change to a red, white and blue page layout from the Drudge Report's traditional black and white.
While most of the typeface is in blue, a select five conservative news/author sites out of over one hundred sites linked at the Drudge Report are highlighted in red:
Free Republic, Breitbart, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter and Mark Steyn.
The Drudge Report and Free Republic have ties going back to the dawn of the political age on the Internet in the late 1990s.
Happy Fourth, Matt!
Gave me a good chuckle so it was good for something.
Happy 4th!
That’s what I thought too. (Color change after you visit the site) I just didn’t want to bust anybody’s bubble. It’s good to have both sites and for different reasons.
I found Free Republic years ago via The Drudge Report. Back then I believe the link was titled “White Water Files.” It took you directly to FR. I found this place and never left. I can’t remember when it happened, but Drudge dropped the link, and I didn’t realize it was back on his page until today. Glad to see it!! Thanks for letting us know kristinn.
“try it in another browser and youll see no highlight”
Better yet..clear out the browser history and they will all be blue again.
I am here like many others because of a linkie at the Drudge Report.
I’ve only been on FR 18 years this month, so I am still entitled to a newbie mistake.

Yeah, you are right. However, the fact our link is there AT ALL is significant.
Nice?

You are correct!
Happy 18-year FR Anniversary
kristinn!
On the app, none are red. On the site in my browser, FR is red. Must be a visited site.
Happy FRanniversary! You’re legal now!!
Sorry to burst bubbles, but it seems to react to cookies that are already set for a browser.
My Comodo IceDragon (Firefox) browser shows only CNN highlighted. I usually do no use that browser to access FR.

Welcome to FR!

</hazing>
I found my way to FreeRepublic via a WHITE WATER link on Drudge.
Sorry Drudge, once I found Free Republic I stopped visiting Drudge.
You are correct.
I just now got here by clicking the Red FR link on Drudge.
That’s how one gets to any site with links on Drudge. It is not unique to FR.
That’s probably not true. I see highlighted links that I have never visited, such as Glenn Beck and CNN.
hate to break it to you, but you have visited those sites - and in particular, the specific URLs linked - whether you are aware of it or not
check your browser history, they’ll be in there somewhere
