IRS Chief: “Trump is a liar, we audited him because his taxes are highly suspicious” [IRS Lies]
Greenville Gazette ^ | March 2, 2016 | Juan Wilder

Posted on 05/16/2016 9:03:14 AM PDT by Roos_Girl

“We don’t care who you are,” stated Koskinen, “Whether you go to church, or don’t go to church.” Koskinen explained audits occur when something pops up in your tax returns they find suspicious. It’s basically all about the numbers. Party or religious affiliation is not part of any IRS audit red flag, according to Koskinen.

See Post 114. Just FYI.

I don't doubt that FR members have been audited. I'm one of them.

The problem is proving that someone was chosen specifically because they are a member of FR, or even that it wasn't the reason.

With a sufficiently large sample of US residents, you are almost certain to find someone that has been audited in the past two decades.

As you posted earlier, people HAVE been targeted for contributing to conservative organizations. It's far more likely there is some overlap with FR members, and that was the real reason.

Sigh, I never suggested the IRS has not been politicized, what I am saying is that complex tax returns, especially those involving large dollar amounts, and lower than statistical average payments to incomes are going to almost certainly trigger an audit more often than other tax returns.

Given Trump probably has scores if not hundreds of income sources, his returns are probably innately complex. Add to that, the fact he probably has some very well paid people who’s entire job it is is to minimize what he pays in taxes, I have little doubt that he or folks like him have a much higher likelihood of being audited.

Exactly my point. The more money involved, and more complex the return, the higher the odds of audit, period. Trump like your friends and family is probably audited at least every few years, simply because of the complexity of the return and the amount of dollars involved.

You’ve made it quite clear you think the article has no value. Shall we move on?

Just wow. It is stunning that the IRS Commissioner is commenting about anybody’s taxes, let alone those of the presumptive nominee of a major political party.

True, but this was several years/several years in a row. I obviously don’t know all the details. Just remember 3D talking about it previously. I think there were several at the same Freep that were “targeted” afterwards. Perhaps she will comment more. If there were, coupled with multiple year audits, I think that adds a little more credence to people being specifically targeted, not for simply posting to FR but for actively protesting.

I already have. You can find thousands of hit pieces even more current than this one. I suspect we will see more of them from you so we can stay informed about what the other side is doing.

LOL. Listen newbie, I am about as far from being a troll as you can get. Maybe you ought to get better informed about what a troll is on this site.

If anyone looked at the article, you’d see that:

1) The IRS Commish, for all that he’s a corrupt SOB, never made the statements in the headline; and

2) The Greenville Gazette is a Leftist rag that liberally (pun intended) editorializes in its “news” stories.

As someone who worked in the tax department of several large firms over the years, I can tell you the following:

1) Many returns are examined each year (literally millions) for data discrepancies. For example, your bank reported $11 of interest, and you either left it off or reported $10.

2) A small number of returns are VERY closely examined - COMPLETELY at random - so that the IRS can develop data to determine when/where/whether people are cheating based on sheer statistics...IOW, what is ordinary and what is out-of-the-ordinary and worthy of examination. These examination REALLY suck, as you need to provide data to justify EVERY SINGLE NUMBER on your return. Its like getting selected for jury duty, but 100 times worse, with no excuses or postponements. It is more like going to the proctologist every day for a month.

3) That the IRS has a special program - with HIGHLY secret parameters - which determines which returns are closely examined. This is revised annually, based on the results of the random proctological exams described in #2. It is known that the higher your income, the greater your odds of being examined/audited. The more unusual deductions (or the more out-sized the deductions, relative to one’s income), the higher the odds. I would imagine that people in Trump’s financial league get examined at least every 2 or 3 years, regardless of how squeaky clean their returns are - but that it is likely that they never know it, as their accountants/lawyers take care of it.

I would also bet that Trump’s personal returns probably show relatively low income, for 2 reasons:

1) He is in the real estate business, in which it is no great challenge to arrange one’s affairs so as to reduce income to little or nothing. Depreciation plus mortgage interest plus real estate taxes plus insurance can largely wipe out net rental income, but the depreciation is a non-cash expense - so one can have LARGE positive cash flow while paying little or no taxes.

2) He doesn’t own much personally - The Trump Organization is likely a Subchapter C corporation, which means that it pays its own taxes. Unless there is salary paid to a shareholder, or dividends, the shareholders show no income. I would assume that Trump pays himself a couple $million/year, and avoids the 2nd layer of tax (i.e. his personal tax return). The man didn’t make $5 billion + by being stupid and paying taxes when it wasn’t necessary.

I am also sure that someone so in the spotlight as he is (by design), has a squeaky clean return. Every single number is backed by documentation, and every single “maybe deductible, maybe not deductible” issue is backed to the hilt with lots of justification in the law or regulations. He’d have to be stupid to NOT tell his accountants that audits are OK, but that penalties for unjustifiable deductions or under-reported income is NOT OK...and, as mentioned before, Trump is anything BUT a stupid person.

Most of this tax stuff about Trump is bandied about by people that don’t know anything more about taxes than they do about designing a faster-than-light drive for a starship. It is ALL about how to get a headline and/or how to drag down a political opponent. IOW, it is a bunch of crap!

It’s highly inappropriate for the IRS to comment on an audit - this is OUTRAGEOUS.

Isn’t it illegal for an IRS employee to publicly divulge an individual’s tax details?

YES - I'd haul this guy's ass in front of a hearing and fire him.

“Move on”, I don’t think those words mean what you think they mean. Let’s try again. It’s pretty clear I did not post this as an attack on Trump but rather an attack on the author, Gazette and IRS. If you think it should be removed then hit he abuse button. One admin has already edited the title to add [IRS Lies], but did not remove the article. Perhaps a different admin will agree with you and remove it. Dunno, but comments have been pretty much along the lines that I thought they would be; in support of Trump and civil.

The title the author made up is a lie. The article is full of lies. Watch the cspan video attached to the article and you will see. The IRS commissioner is still a liar, but he’s not the only one.

Has he been ARRESTED AND CHARGED for Unlawfully releasing Private Info on a Citizen??

Has he been ARRESTED AND CHARGED for ILLEGALLY ACCESSING a Citizens Tax Return?? The IRS CHief has NO GROUNDS for reviewing ANY RETURN unless a Criminal Referral is made

HE BELONGS IN PRISON BEFORE DINNER

The IRS Chief did not actually say that. The author pulled that quote out of his Obama. I do wonder if Kisenen were so inclined, which we all know he wouldn’t be, if he would win a libel case against the author.

Why would anyone post this “story”? Go to the website, it is an obviously “anti Trump” site disguised as news. Practically every story is anti-Trump, with a few “click baits” thrown in. Probably created this year.

People need to be a bit more discerning about what they post.

All the articles are written by the same guy. There are about 100 different stories with about 8 being anti-Trump. It appears to me he’s a Bernie guy. I originally saw this article on Facebook, seems to be making the rounds there.
