Beer lovers, rejoice! Not only does beer taste great, and make you feel "buzzed" on life, beer is also good for you. Well, in moderation.
As pints are poured in bars and restaurants across the country, know that drinking beer has real health benefits.*
-
1. Decreased incidence of heart disease
There are more than 20 well-done, large international studies that all demonstrate the heart benefits of moderate alcohol consumption. One study, conducted by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) noted a 20 to 40 percent decrease in coronary artery disease in moderate alcohol drinkers. Now, that doesnt mean drinking more is better.
Drinking beer responsibly is drinking healthy. Moderate consumption of beer (alcohol) results in an increase in HDL (good cholesterol) and a decrease in LDL (bad cholesterol), along with an improvement in both HDL and LDL particle size.
So, dont worry about the medical terms; just know that a slightly "buzzed" heart is a happy heart.

Fosters is the tourist beer of Australia, kinda like Bud is here; it’s the sucky beer of Oz. I spent four years working there. VB and XXXX are better. Foster’s in the US is >NOT< imported from Oz, it’s brewed my Molson in Canada; that’s why they can say “imported” on the pub signs here - but you’ll notice they don’t say from where.

If you’re going to rag on large breweries, touting Foster’s doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
I’ve had enough macro-brew in my past to never drink it again. There is too much amazingly flavorful smaller brewery beers that are so much better. I’m lucky and live in the same town where the line of Alaskan Brewing is made and have access even up here in Alaska to fantastic beers made by people who care more about flavor than profit.
Also, Foster’s is an Australian *brand*, but it’s not an Australian beer. It’s owned by SABMiller, a South African company, and if you’re in the US, the Foster’s you are drinking was probably brewed in Texas.
Other “foreign” beers brewed in the US for the US market include
Kirin
Beck’s
Killians Irish Red
Bass Ale
Red Stripe
Additionally, brands like Blue Moon and Redd’s Apple are owned by Coors/Miller/SABMiller, and Shock Top is owned by the people who bring you Budweiser.
Here’s a good map of who makes what:

Foster’s has been brewed in Texas instead of Canada since 2007.

PS - okay, further research says you’re right, brewed by Miller in Ft. Worth, TX; Miller, well that should tell you something right there.

After living in Germany for years and acquiring a taste for their many regional beers, I settled on Fosters and sometimes Red Hook because of the taste, and the price is more within my budget.
Please don't lecture me on beers, I've had some of the world's best

I never cared for beer until I was stationed in Thailand. Outside the cities, the water wasn't safe to drink, so I started drinking Singh beer. The Thais had learned their brewing from the Germans, and did a good job. I still order it when I'm in a Thai restaurant. Otherwise it's Killian's Red or Sam Adams Ale.
