'Jurassic World' Dinosaurs Stuck in the 1980s, Experts Grumble
National Geographic ^ | November 26, 2014 | Linda Qiu and Dan Vergano

Who doesn't love a dinosaur flick? Well, paleontologists have a few fossil bones to pick with Jurassic World, the latest in a line of dinosaur movies that once bragged about its scientific credibility.

The trailer for the new movie, a reboot of the popular 1990s Jurassic Park franchise, was released Tuesday and has already been viewed more than 14 million times on YouTube. Like the original movie, Jurassic World takes place in an island safari park, where tourists visit living dinosaurs cloned from ancient DNA—until one hybrid monster goes rogue.

Despite global fervor among fans, dinosaur scientists are not thrilled with Hollywood's treatment of their subject matter.

But THEN Star Trek violates its own science by having a ship go Warp 15

I am not an ultimate Trekkie by any stretch, but I don't recall them dong over warp 10, what movie or episode did that occur?

>>I am not an ultimate Trekkie by any stretch, but I don’t recall them dong over warp 10, what movie or episode did that occur?<<

The 3-part finale, “All Good Things.” Riker orders the Enterprise to go to Warp 13. But in “The Changeling,” Nomad creates a weapon capable of firing on the Enterprise at Warp 15 (note this is warp, not trans-warp which would need an entirely different gauge).

In “That which survives” the Enterprise is sabatoged and makes Warp 14.1 before Scotty shuts her down.

There are others but warp theory, within the science of Star Trek, says Warp 10 is infinity.

>>Hubby does that.....picks apart movies. <<

I am not a lawyer, nor do I stay at Holiday Inn Expresses, but I love pointing out all the legal flaws in Law & Order episodes (which is how Mrs. FD and I pass most Saturday mornings).

It is hard to find a favorite, but one they trot out from time to time is a witness on the stand admits to actually doing the crime, thus alibiing the defendant (but reatnig a problem in prosecuting said witness since there is no other evidence).

From what I understand, such an admission would have to be supported by evidence and a proper foundation laid. Else all anyone would have to do to get off would be just to have a witness blurt out “I did it!”

Not just Science Fiction movies, and not just errors in science. I especially like pointing out historical errors.

"This is the old trope that scientists are ultimately lacking in any kind of restraint or basic judgment and need others to stop them from destroying the world," says paleontologist Michael Habib of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.

Talk to your climatologist friends for destroying the credibility of science and scientists. Until then ... pthhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

If you can’t go beyond infinity you’re not trying hard enough! ;^)

SweetiePalm gets annoyed when I point out Navy uniform and other errors in the various NCIS series.

The latest one I saw had a Chief wearing an Officer Surface Warfare pin the first two times we see him and an Enlisted Surface Warfare Pin the last time we see him in uniform.

It is a FICTIONAL MOVIE!!!!! I don’t go the movies to get facts on history, science or sociology. I go to the movies to be ENTERTAINED.

In one western movie (set in the 1880s) I saw an airplane flying in the sky...and another time, in a movie (set in 1930s), was a BNSF ( the railroad was crested in the late 90s) boxcar.

Even TV shows have errors.

The article concludes with this:
Almost all the paleontologists interviewed acknowledged they would see the movie when it is released on June 12, 2015, despite their reservations.

"I like a fun movie," [paleontologist Thomas R. Holtz, Jr.] says. "But fun, interesting, and accurate is even better."

I get a kick out of the tendency of movie makers to always use red tail hawk calls while showing a bald eagle, or using kookaburra calls for a supposed African setting.

I will admit though that the red tail call is more studly than the bald eagle’s natural call.

If that is the echoing cry we hear when they are depicting a desolate desert or an Indian scene, I am still trying to find it as a ringtone.
