Edge of Tomorrow isn't expected to be the box office smash its $178 million budget suggests Warner Bros. hoped it would be, but at least audiences can expect one of the best big-budget movies in theaters this summer.
Critics love Tom Cruise's latest action film, which blends science fiction elements with a premise borrowed from classic Bill Murray comedy Groundhog Day. Like Murray, Cruise plays a man who is forced to Live. Die. Repeat for what must feel like an eternity, except instead of picking up women and causing trouble in a sleepy Pennsylvania town most famous for a rodent, Cruise must team up with a female war hero (Emily Blunt) to figure out how to stop an alien race from wiping out humanity.

Besides, I've already paid to see it. I'll just wait for it to show up on my HDTV and surround sound system at home. I'm patient that way.
“I find him a likable actor. Many good performances.”
He’s ok. Does he make me want to see a movie he’s in? No. But there aren’t too many actors around anymore that do.
“Fair Paul: Does anyone else feel like I do that special effects killed movies? Special effects just suck the life out of a great plot or story line.
Special effects are like fake boobs: They usually standout for looking fake.
Well, let’s look at it this way: how often will we get a chance to watch Tom Cruise die? Over. And over. And over. And............
“I really dont understand the hate for Cruise. Some of his movies have had conservatives messages in them.”
A lot of it is the Scientology thing. You may be surprised, but most Scientologists lean Republican in their political views and voting habits.
She's a hottie.
"Edge of Tomorrow," Tom Cruise's well-executed, summer, sci-fi actioner, is essentially about how Don Draper became John Wayne. When we meet American Major Cage (Cruise), he's done nothing to earn his rank other than game the system after some college ROTC. His job is to sell a war, not fight one. He's a dishonorable smarmy coward who sees himself as above the meat-grinder his promotion skills have helped to pour countless men and women into.It sounds as if it deserves a better turnout than it's getting. That's not to say the world doesn't need Cage's skills. We're in trouble. Hostile, seemingly invincible alien invaders called Mimics have taken much of Europe, and there's no question world domination is the ultimate goal. After a series of staggering losses, the creation of exoskelton combat jackets helped even the odds, but only temporarily.
Those jackets served another important purpose: helped to create a symbolic hero, Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt), a Special Forces soldier sold as the Angel of Verdun by men like Cage but known affectionately as Full Metal Bitch by the warriors honored to fight by her side. Tomorrow Rita will be dropped on a French beach along with legions of others In what everyone knows is the last chance to save Europe and therefore the world.
The movie-going audience seems to be getting a bit burnt out on CGI-laden summer blockbusters.
They’ve done a really bad job of selling it. #1 reason people go to see a movie is the subject matter, if the advertising doesn’t tell people what a movie is about they won’t see it. I have yet to see anything that makes this movie not Source Code with more action, if I want to watch Source Code again I can do that at home.
RE Cruise:
Oh, I don’t “hate” the guy at all, personally. He just made some comments a few years ago about not wanting to raise kids here in this country, but evidently saw no problem making money off of us at the same time.
That’s my issue with him. I think he’s a decent actor, does a good job, and plays his roles well.
But... on the other hand, with liberal insanity taking over everything, I can sort of see his point to a degree.
But I wouldn’t run away and turn my back on my country, so I guess that’s where he and I differ.
My problem is the hypocrisy. It’s like Stallone playing “Rambo” and blowing the crap out of everything with guns in his movies, then turning around and calling for more gun control. And he’s a Republican, too.

I know that Cruise is a crazy scientologist, but I love some of his movies. Some have been stinkers, but others have been great.
A great smile, a sense of humour, intelligence and kindness go a long way. “Tall, dark and handsome” is overrated.
These kids today with their color film.
It stars Tom Cruise. Incentive enough to ignore it. He is an egotistical a**hole with a Napoleanic complex, and I will not contribute a dime to his bank account.
I’ve read about Scientology and I can tell you, as a woman, it is a NASTY piece of work...akin to Islam.
I will NOT line Tom Cruise’s pockets...
I am surprised.
Surprised as well since Scientology is trendy with the Hollyweird crowd. But you pretty much have to be rich to be a practicing scientologist (these guys waste thousands of dollars a year on “audits”), so maybe they’re voting Republican for fiscal reasons.
The bizarro thing I see on here is that Jews vote 90% RAT and we’re supposed to believe they’re a “swing vote” that’s “in play” for the GOP every election, whereas Catholics vote 50% RAT and we’re supposed to believe they’re “totally owned by the Democrats”
It would be akin to arguing that Ohio is a ‘safe RAT state’ because it voted for Obama, but Massachuttes ‘could go either way’ in 2016.
First time I saw Cruise was Taps 1981 which I got a kick out of, Tim Hutton, Penn and Tom Cruise as teens with a George C Scott in the beginning of it. .
Next I saw him in Risky business which I didn’t care for.
I alway like Tim Hutton in movies.
I haven't seen any of that. Must come from anti-Catholic people. Looking at some polling from Pew. White, Non-Hispanic Catholics voted 59% for Romney, better than non-Evangelical Protestants.
Jews were 69-30 Obama. Pretty much only Blacks and (Native) Indians are in the 90%+ rat voting range. Even the Homos are only 3 to 1 rat, if I'm not mistaken, enough of them vote their pocket books.

Hubby and I saw it tonight. He was the one that really wanted to go, I said OK. Not crazy about Cruse. It wasn’t too bad, I do like Emily Blunt. Way too much CGI and too fast action, reminded me of Transformers which I could barely watch. Maybe it appeals to the younger video game generation but too much happening on the screen so fast is a distraction. Also his too long army haircut bothered me. When he was in uniform he just couldn’t pull it off.
