Scientists Discover Why Olive Oil Lowers Blood Pressure

The secret to the Mediterranean diet may be in the salad. Eating unsaturated fats, like those in olive oil, along with leafy greens and other vegetables creates a certain kind of fatty acid that lowers blood pressure, scientists said Monday.
These nitro fatty acids are formed when consuming spinach, celery and carrots that are filled with nitrates and nitrites, along with avocado, nuts and olive oils that contain healthy fats. Nitro fatty acids appear to inhibit an enzyme known as soluble epoxide hydrolase, which regulates blood pressure, said the research in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, a peer-reviewed US journal.

To be fair, Olive Oyl doesn’t look like the kind of woman that would raise ANYONE’S blood pressure.
I never understood what Popeye and Brutus saw in her. ;)

Every time I here or see anything about the Golden Oreo president my blood pressure rises. There isn’t enough olive oil in the supermarket to lower my pressure for a sustained period of time.

Maybe it was because she was the only young woman on the show. Anyone who has visited GTMO or other isolated base would immediately recognize the phenomenon.
If the arithmetic is right, she doesn't even have to be young.
More calculii will surely follow ...

I buy it by the gallon, the stuff is great. Remember the smoke point is < than 350 degres so don’t use it to make French fries.

Showing Oils reduce blood pressure is a long way from the claims of reducing Coronary disease and weight loss. In fact the substitution of vegetable fat and animal fat had many health consequences. Solution, a balanced diet!

Yeah, but look at THEM. Point well taken!

The two best oils for you are olive (extra virgin) and coconut.

A good friend of mine who was living in Lebanon in the '80s told me that the Lebanese liked Popeye cartoons. They just view them differently.

First, they kind of like Bluto/Brutus, as he looks rather Arabic.

Second, they don't see the irony of fighting over Olive Oyl, as they believe that's what ALL American women look and act like.

Third, it was commonly thought that Bluto/Brutus was actually fighting Popeye over the Spinach, which is well-loved in the region.

    That is just hilarious!
I happen to love spinach too, but not enough to make me chase a woman like Olive Oyl.
