Debate between plant based diet and Paleo diet.
(Excerpt) Read more at youtube.com ...
You know sometimes I actually think that it’s a good thing that people can’t accept the truth about animal products. Because if they did then prices would rise dramatically. And right now this is a very affordable way to eat. Caldwell Essylstyn has many videos on youtube that demonstrate from his practice just how much damagage animal products do to you arteries. But people won’t know until they have that first event, which could be fatal. Did you know that 50,000 patients die on the operating table during heart operations each year?
What is it with you carb lovers and your gleefulness at the thought of folks being sick?

We wrongly took fat out of foods, and replaced it with sugar because food without fat tastes like cardboard. Processed foods contain so much sugar.
She either will, or she won’t, and she knows all the stuff she needs to do-she’s probably been on 100 diets in the last couple of years-and if her husband runs out of patience and bails, she can’t come home to mami. She would eat me out of house and home and I can’t afford that-besides, I won’t have any of the crap she likes to eat here, and her dog is neurotic-he’d drive my Husky nuts...
BS. So wrong. Sugar and grains damage the arteries.
The Inuit eat almost a 100% fat diet. No heart disease. No cancer. No grains. No processed foods.
Explain that?
Lets look at a comment from Kim Hill, Professor of Anthropology from ASU, whose work on the Hiwi was so misrepresented in the Scientifica American article he took the time to write the following comment, which is #126 of the comments associated with the SA article. Ill provide that comment below, and Im going to bold certain sections that I think are particularly important:
A few quick observations since the work of my wife and I on the Hiwi is extensively cited here (as is our demographic documentation of hunter-gatherer lifespans). First, the Hiwi, like the other hunter-gatherers that we have worked with and visited, are much healthier in general than are Americans, but with the caveat that they suffer from maladies that we can cure with modern medicine (infections, parasites). They are lean and fit. Ache hunter-gatherers of Paraguay are even more fit than the Hiwi, they eat more and have extremely high exercise loads. High mortality of hunter-gatherers (mainly in infancy) is not relevant to the argument here because it mainly comes from violence and trauma. Warfare was a major cause of death among the Hiwi, nobody is suggesting we emulate that part of the paleo lifestyle. Parasites are unpleasant, and yes luckily we now have ways to eliminate them that our ancestors never achieved. But the point is that if Hunter-gatherers are lean, and fit (they look much more like serious athletes than do modern people), why? If not their diet and exercise regime, then what does make them lean and fit compared to modern people? Logic suggests that diet is part of the solution (excercise seems downplayed by everyone).
So the discussion here should be focused on what we can learn from hunter-gatherers to improve our own health. How do paleofantasy critiques contribute to that discussion? I'm not sure, I haven't read the book. Yes there is significant genetic evolution in recent times, yes dietary variation in human foragers around the world suggest no single optimal diet, but still, what can be extracted by acknowledging that they are lean and fit? The paleodiet discussion has been very important for advancing our understanding of human nutrition a field which has been dominated by the search for minimal requirements rather than optimality. But the bottom line is that the paleodiet critics need to contribute rather than just critique. And for the record, my wife Ana Hurtado and I have been eating a paleodiet (by accident because of fieldwork) for more than 30 years, because we grew accustomed to that diet (long before the fad). Meats, and unprocessed plant foods are a simple generalized ancestral diet and appear to produce better health than the current standard modern diet. As anyone who knows us can affirm, Hurtado and I are a lot leaner and fitter than most Americans in our age cohort (near 60). Why?
Read "The Great Cholesterol Myth - Why lowering your chloesterol won't prevent heart disease - and the Statin free plan that will"
The main cause of heart disease is sugar and grains.
So true. You can't get sulfur and B vitamins from grains.
I have struggled with my weight for years. I lost 50lbs doing Atkins several years ago, but became pregnant again and could be so restrictive with morning sickness. Gained a lot back, then had thyroid problems after the baby was born and just couldn’t drop the weight again. So I went face down into cake. LOL
I finally tried the Trim Healthy Mama plan, and I love it! It’s a type of carb/calorie/fat cycling plan. What I love most about it is having sweet treats again. With a bunch of little kids and 11 birthdays to celebrate, it was so hard not eating junky desserts. Now I indulge with no guilt.
Sorry it sounds like an ad. Can’t help it. These sisters tried every diet then put together what seemed to work from various different plans.. I was skeptical when I started, but it is working, especially on the stubborn belly fat.

Good for you-sounds like you broke the diet-and-gain cycle. I’m saving that link to sand to the cub when she mentions diet again.
I weigh the same as I did at 17, and grew up with a pretty much paleo/Atkins diet in the country, so I never developed a taste for sweets. There was/still is a small orchard on the family ranch, and berry vines, so fresh fruit was available.
I love Huskies. Would your daughter’s dog happen to be a small one? ;)
I don’t blame you a bit for expecting her to take the reins of her own life. If she would cut the carbs, she’d find out she doesn’t really have to “diet.”
No-her dog is an Pitbull Terrier, he weighs maybe 50 lbs or so, and has nice manners, but is barky and jumpy, like most terriers seem to be-I think he is neurotic, but I think he is getting it from her...
My Husky is a Siberian one-over 70 lbs-and no, she is not friendly to small dogs-she seems to think they are prey items-has a particular dislike for the barky Yorkie on the next door property that escapes his yard and comes in under my fence sometimes.
Tell that to the Chimps that have been seen repeatedly hunting and killing small animals, monkeys and even other Chimps, and then eating them. We are omnivores. Insects have also been an important food item in some places. Early hominids probably ate eggs.
Our ancestors were never grazing animals. Our earliest mamalian ancestors were shrew like. I think shrews eat insects and other small mammals, possibly eggs, as well as fruits and seeds. Need to check that out though.
Not so, my wife was on type 2 meds and he dr wanted to put her on insulin. But then she suggested Neal Barnard’s Reversing Diabetes. She is no longer on any meds for her diabetes at all and her sugar is fine. It’s taken a couple of years but my BP has dropped and my other digestive problems are gone. It’s true one should avoid white flour products and all processed foods> but you are wrong about potatoes rice and pasta. Pasta has a lower GI than bread because it is more dense. But it is animal fat that is causing your insulin resistance unless of course you have type 1 diabetes and then of course you have a different problem which is not caused by diet and can’t be solved by it either. The US Government does not tell us to eat a Plant based whole food vegan diet at all. My wife lost 35 lbs after going on this diet for 6 months and has maintained that weight loss for 2 years. Half a million people each year go under the knife for heart operations and 50,000 die on the table. It’s not potatoes that are killing them, it’s animal products like cheese, beef and chicken which are clogging their arteries.
Animal fat is the cause of insulin resistance?
I’d love to see some sources on that.
And your odds of surviving a 1st heart attack are pretty dim as well.
I never really ate evil carbs in the sense you might think. I only ate whole foods, and relatively small amounts of bread/pasta. But I may have been pre-diabetic...
since I no longer eat any grains or sugars besides a tablespoon of honey in some tea at night, I haven’t had any noticeable periods of tiredeness at all. The Paleo/SCD diet seems to work for me. At age 50 I passed my vision test at the MVA without glasses lol
