... Workers at the nations best known fast-food restaurants in seven cities across America are planning to walk off the job Monday to protest what they say are wages that are too low to live on. In a move orchestrated with the help of powerful labor unions and clergy groups, the workers plan to strike for a day to demand their wages be doubled. ... The workers are calling for wages of $15 per hour, more than double New York's current minimum wage of $7.25.

I think they should demand $30 an hour.
Why not?
Get out the “Help Wanted” signs...
Why not a million? If you are gonna go, go first class
When I was a kid in high school, most of these fast food jobs were held by teenagers. Just how much of a “living wage” do you need to live with mom and dad?
Anyone looking for a job should be right there waiting to put on the apron.
I always double whatever they ask for. 15 - 30 - 60 - $120 an hour. I’m happy to play the game all day long. Name a figure, and I’ll ask why twice as much isn’t viable.
For the record: We are now at 2 million.
Think of the economic prosperity that would result!
Minimum wage is a dumb concept. Every time it is raised, it devalues the wages of those who make more. Our economy would benefit immensely if ours were dropped altogether or lowered to about $3/hour.
Remember the concept that Minimum Wage is what ‘entry-level’ people get so that the employer can afford training? What really powers this is the low-information voter pool that sees this as rich vs poor class warfare. With the current youth unemployment at an all-time high, how do you think this will effect it?
I think that the unions may still have contractual obligations in place that use Minimum Wage as a measuring stick that forces increases across the board when it is raised, but I do not know this for certain. Still, it appears to me that this is yet another attempt to kill the goose and that poor bird is really getting run ragged right now between government regs, food police and this union-backed worker strikes.
Why not $4 million?
I need $8M an hour. I have a family to feed. When I lived in Zimbabwe, I earned more than that.
When is somebody going to have the stones to fire them all.
Only $30? Quit being so cheap. Make it $200 an hour or no Whopper for you!
Move orchestrated with the help of powerful labor unions,
Nothing like a $5.00 order of fries.
Fire ‘em all. Hire other folks willing to work at that wage.
We are now heading into Year Six of an Obamastalled economy.
Adults are increasingly giving up hope of grasping any next rung on the ladder. As they resign themselves to this being “as good as it gets” they will radicalize and turn their efforts towards squeezing all they can get out of their current job.
Has been the history across Western Europe.
The kiddies have yet to figure out that they are being hosed.
I’ll see your $8M and raise you $8M. $16M/hr. - that’s the ticket! (Do I hear $32M?)
