Rush Limbaugh on his radio show discussed an article which stated that there is no respected voice in the national arena articulating conservatism. Such an advocate for conservatism is crucial to reversing the direction of America as Obama drives us toward socialism while low-info voters gleefully sing Kumbaya in the backseat.
Well excuse me for pointing out the obvious, but we had an extraordinary advocate for conservatism, and look what happened to her. Judas on our side betrayed her -- sold her reputation for 30 seconds of fame and favor with the media.
Even now, folks on our side are still beating up on Sarah Palin, saying Palin has lost her appeal -- Palin is unelectable -- Palin wasn't smart enough -- Palin wasn't prepared, etc. So this is how we treat our heroes. Many Democratic Party politicians/advocates are immoral, liars, and cheats. And yet, they are treated like superstars by the media. Democrats have the backs of their associates, no matter what. For example: Democrats never rebuked Clinton for receiving oral sex from an intern in the Oval Office. They simply launched a campaign claiming that any man in Clinton's position would have reacted like him. Think about that, folks: Democrats and the media lowered the standard of national leadership behavior to cover their guy.
We conservatives act as if our representatives must be the reincarnation of Jesus Christ -- perfect in every way. At a conservative's slightest misstep, Republicans/conservatives trip over one another backing away from the individual in an effort to get out of the media's and Democrats' line of fire.
Clearly, advocates of conservatism are expected by both parties to walk on water.

"Peeking Out From the McCain Wreckage: Mitt Romney"
"Someone's got to say it: IS MITT ROMNEY RESPONSIBLE FOR OBAMA'S VICTORY?"
"Vanity: Team Romney Sabotaged Palin and Continuing to Do So?"
Uh, the initial attacks on Palin came from John McCain’s campaign manager. Betrayed doesn’t begin to cover it.
She was SAVAGED by RINOs. Almost all of the post election attacks came from the GOP Establishment.
who needs Democrats or the MSM. I don't consider myself a Republican anymore.
I don’t hate Palin, but she kind of mucked up in 2011 - 2012 by not running and thearby waving the white flag of defeat. If she had run, she would have had a decent shot at taking the weak GOP primary candidates out, including Mitt Romney. Hopefully, the next great conservative voice has the moxie to run and not be intimidated by the media, GOPE and Hollywood. Reagan ran despite the establishment not liking him and the left hating him and he won. He overcame his media and establishment created vulnerabilities by running a great campaign and aiming for the liberal jugular. This can be replicated again, that is, if a conservative has the guts to want to run.
Sure is a nice thread so far! Love it. Like-minded conservatives really do need a rallying point. Other than help elect those we believe are true conservatives (as opposed to those who claim they are severely conservative), and to encourage each other on FR...other than that, what’s the plan, or is there one?
This article seems to presume Palin is incapable of launching a successful run in 2016.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
Betrayal is a two way street. Any conservative who watched her April 15 2011 speech in Madison Wi. could say he was betrayed. That speech, ending with the words “ President Obama, Game On.” was a clarion call to arms, but Mrs. Palin made no effort to follow up. All the talk of concerns for her family, worries about the media bias are mere excuses for doing nothing but making a fiery speech here and there.
I don’t get this at all. No one “betrayed” Sarah Palin, least of all the GOP establishment, whoever that may be. You have to be in it to win it, and from the day McCain/Palin lost in November 2008, she gradually put herself farther out of it, entirely of her own doing.
The things which damaged her credibility in 2009 and 2010 — resigning from the Governorship, the television shows, family drama etc. — were not a GOP establishment conspiracy, but were her call altogether. Even with that, by the early autumn of 2011 with Mitt having little traction and the anyone-but-Mitt boom-and-bust cycle well underway, there was no one in the GOP establishment keeping her from running. She didn’t need a cent of their money or an iota of their approval.
The craziest thing about GOP establishment betrayal theory is that, disliked as she may have been, she would have had MORE support in dollars and attention than that garnered by either Gingrich and Santorum, whom the establishment regarded as has-been vanity campaigners certain to go down to crushing defeats in November if they were somehow nominated.
I don’t know if she would have beaten Mitt, but no one could, or would, have stopped her from giving it the best shot possible.
of course it was too soon for her... i said so at the time... others said so... i knew she could be a strong voice for conservatives in the future, but not by starting out as McCain's running mate... it was too soon for her... she should have finished her first term, at least... but i and others were villified for voicing this as "anti-Palin," which i definitely was not... and she could have said no to McCain... he didn't hurt her by not "letting her" finish her term as governor... she had a choice... she doesn't strike me as someone who is made to do anything she doesn't really want to do... it was too soon--she was not prepared like she could have been if she had waited another 2-6 years...
(What will happen to the next great conservative voice?)
Ask Michelle Bachman..
I am in total agreement with your post, nicely stated.
Even now? January 2013?
Nobody is talking about Palin. Nobody's said anything about her for weeks, that I can find (except whoever wrote this article).
Wait until she actually decides to run for something and then you can complain all you want. Or, as kids used to say, if you like her so much then marry her. At least, don't say "even now" when you complain about what happened years ago.
Rove is that you?
bttt
Even at Indianola September 3 I was sure she was in.
Something happened.
Your post nicely illustrates the difference between the Rats and Republicans (”too soon”, Obama vrs Palin).
Not suggesting she isn’t independent, but such an offer suggests the needs of the party depend on it. Not to mention it is a once in a lifetime offer.
You are quite mistaken.
Mitt Romney BETRAYED and backstabbed
Gov. Palin over and over and over.
Did you help him?
