BEAUNE, FRANCE Is it time for Burgundy lovers to panic? Are the prices of these most exquisite and expressive wines about to spiral into the stratosphere, propelled by a burgeoning generation of Burgundy fans from China? In short, is Burgundy about to go the way of Bordeaux?
Those fears were weighing on many peoples minds last weekend at least, those who spend euros, dollars, pounds or yen, rather than renminbi at the biggest annual wine party in Burgundy, three days of not-always-fine dining and drinking that surround the Hospices de Beaune charity auction.
At the auction, the latest vintage of wine from the Hospices, a hospital and former almshouse that is also one of the most prominent vineyard owners in Burgundy, is sold. The sale serves as an early indicator of interest in a vintage, as well as broader gauge of the state of the Burgundy wine economy......

Not sure what this writers is talking about about. DRC wines have been in the stratosphere for decades.

I agree. In ten years or maybe 15, we will be getting great wines from China.
As long as I can get cheap red at Walmart, HEB, or Trader Joe’s, I’m happy (and healthy). And so far, not a problem.
Haven’t they heard of price controls? ((snort!!)) Have the govt set the price of wine so everyone can afford it. Whoever makes the wine certainly has certainly made enough money in the past exploiting worker grapes.
There are plenty of good wines around so worry not.

This is confusing.
I thought a wine can only be called a "Bordeaux" wine if the grapes and the wines made from the grapes come from France.
Cabernet Sauvignon is a Bordeaux varietal not a Burgundy varietal.
Hint: If the wine bottle has a gently sloping neck it is a burgundy or burgundy blend. If it has a squared off neck it is a bordeaux or bordeaux blend.
