Bob is quite the dog.
He's becoming known for his spiral stunt to the bottom of his owner's pool, pawing and clawing and paddling his way down to the depths, and then coming up for air with his prized toy in his mouth.
"He's Bob, and we've named him Bob the Amazing Diving Dog," said his owner, Kristie Navarrette. Her family took Bob in as a stray four years ago.
Bob's unique trick became known to the family one summer afternoon when the pooch was poolside with his plastic toy.
"I was floating one day in the pool and he dropped it in the pool and I was wasn't going to get it until I got out, and I told him that and he looked at me like, 'I don't need you,' and did it," said Navarrette.
And Bob has been making a splash ever since with neighbors, family and friends, circling his way 8 feet down to the pool's bottom. Navarrette has even posted Bob's buoyancy-defying dives on YouTube, just so others believe what she's been seeing.

Hmmm...
Self-taught, huh?
Could be he had already learned that skill with his previous owner.
But, still, it's a skill which I've always struggled with.

Our pool maintenance guy: "Lady, one dog in the pool is like having 17 people in there. I'd advise you keep it to a minimum." Me: "Yeah, sure."

We had a diving Airedale in Alaska, But only problem was he liked to dive for spawning salmon, then pile them up outside the front door.

Note to self. Never take Bob demolition fishing.

LOL. Spawning salmon is not what I would call table fare.
And we often had more fresh salmon than could handle.

LOL, when I read the headline, I thought that the dog taught itself how to DRIVE.....you know, like Toonces, the Driving Cat.

I had a “hunting” Siamese cat in Valdez. His preferred prey was shrews, which he would catch, kill, and line up in front of the refrigerator for me.

LOL. We now have a former feral cat that hung about the house, then one day came in through the doggie door and took over. She does the same thing. ever so proud to bring her kills into the house for display, be they mice, pack rats, birds, lizards and snakes.
When I hear the Wife scream, I know I have another victim removal chore coming up.

No big deal. We had one that would swim along at a lake we used to take her to. Then if we threw out a rock she would dive to get it. She would stay under a long time. She then would come up and it she "sensed" she had gotten the wrong rock and would drop drop it back under. Then by her own choosing, she would dive back under to get one that she though was the right rock!
She would do this over and over. And pretty often got the right one we had thrown in. She would do this over and over. She would do it at a lake we used to take her to, hut also did it in a creek nearer our house.
Her name was Smokey (Australian Cattle Dog) and she was a true alpha. The also taught her ht her adopted son (a pit beagle) and he then would imitate her. Diving under and just getting random rock she thought we threw in.
It was so sad to see Smokey pass away. But it was a happy day for the neighbor dogs, as now there was no more alpha dog who ruled the developments in this area. She ruled over Great Danes, German Sheppard's, Grey Hounds, Labradors, Doberman Pincher's, Huskies, etc. All of them! We only ever saw one dog she did not dominate and it was some sort of old mute in the neighborhood. LOL sigh.
She was a great dog and companion, and now is very missed.
