Supports a path to citizenship, but no amnesty for illegals
Q: Should undocumented immigrants all should be deported?
A: There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrant - there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants - not only economically is that just an impossibility but that's not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue.
Q: Do you then favor an amnesty for the 12 million undocumented immigrants?
A: No, I do not. Not total amnesty. You know, people have got to follow the rules. We have got to make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally should be first in line for services being provided and those opportunities that this great country provides.
Q: So you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?
A: I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.

Took no action on Alaska's "sanctuary cities" Lou Dobbs notes that at least two of Alaska's cities have been officially designated as sanctuary cities: "An August 14, 2006 report produced by the Congressional Research Service listed 31 cities and counties that have 'don't ask, don't tell' sanctuary policies in place. They [include] Anchorage, Alaska [and] Fairbanks, Alaska. Alaska and Oregon both have state-wide policies that forbid state agencies from using resources to enforce federal immigration law."
Apparently, this is by design from the highest levels.
In fact, a resolution to that effect was passed in the Alaska state legislature in 2003 (before Palin's election): "[Alaska] House Joint Resolution 22 - May 2003: Establishes that state agencies and instrumentalities may not use state resources or institutions for the enforcement of federal immigration laws, which are the responsibility of the federal government."
Itâs not clear whether Gov. Palin has ever weighed in, pro or con, on Alaskaâs sanctuary policies.

Tightened restrictions on illegal alien's drivers licenses
There has been an ongoing fight in Alaska over drivers' licenses for illegals. A bill banning drivers' licenses for illegals passed the Alaska state senate in 2003 [before Palin was elected governor]: "JUNEAU (AP) - The state Senate approved a bill that tightens the standards for getting a driverâs license by requiring applicants prove they are in the country legally and by placing time limits on licenses for legal aliens."
The measure did not pass into law. In any event, Palin's DMV subsequently tightened the administrative regulations on drivers' licenses, thereby giving rise to a lawsuit by some folks who found the new restrictions inconvenient.

You don't have to deport them, Sarah.
Just stop giving them jobs and free stuff and they will go home of their own volition.
In other words, have the federal government obey its own laws.
“A: I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. “
That may well be her position now (who knows), but considering that we’re talking October, 2008, she didn’t have much of a choice then, considering who was at the top of the ticket.
people should not be rewarded for violating our laws and our border.
Mexico’s laws are 100 times more draconian!
and you don’t NEED to deport 12 million.
simply STOP giving TAXPAYER money,
to people here ILLEGALLY !!!
Its just obvious you cant have free immigration and a welfare state,
OMG!!! She’s no better if not worse than St. Rick of Tx!!!
She’s unworthy!
October 26, 2008.....
Vice-Presidential candidates have to parrot the position of the guy at the top of the ticket....in this case, John McCain.
When Sarah Palin’s first book came out, “Going Rogue,” Sarah was a guest on Rush Limbaugh’s radio show. When Rush asked her about illegal immigration, Sarah said, “They’re called illegal aliens for a reason.”
Let Sarah declare whether or not she’s a candidate for president. If she IS in fact in the race, then she should be asked to clearly state her position concerning the issue of illegal immigration. If she doesn’t run, her position on this subject doesn’t really matter.
She was McCain’s VP candidate and had to hew the McCain line on that issue. VP candidates don’t have their own platform to run on.
You need to ask her now where she stands on immigration, when she is speaking for herself.
Perhaps, but I doubt it. We can deport every last one of them - including rounding them up if we have the will. Eisenhower got rid of several million illegals in operation Wetback. The “we can’t do it” excuse is a lie, and the “it’s inhumane” lie is just an attempt to bully people into accepting illegal entry as fait accompli.
If she is for “a path to citizenship”, she needs to find a path back to Alaska.

In all fairness, after having done more research, I also found this.
Sarah Palin Takes Stand on Immigration
May 21, 2010
“Arizonans have the courage to do what the Obama administration has failed to do in its first year and a half in office, namely secure our border and enforce our federal laws,”
However, to may knowledge, she never repudiated her statement of 2008, when she said she was in favor of giving illegals a path to citizenship, as I quoted earlier.
Considering that people drag out Perry’s statements from 10-20 years ago, this was fair.
People should have the same standards for all candidates.
But bashing Perry for less, while giving Palin a pass is not playing fair.
Perry NEVER said he was in favor of giving illegals a path to citizenship.

The DREAM Act, well see, the immigrants of the past, they had to literally and figuratively stand in line to become U.S. citizens, said Palin. I’d like to see that continue, and unfortunately the DREAM Act kind of usurps that, the system.”
You *research* is faulty. Sarah Palin has spoken about illegal immigration several times with Greata, Dean Hannity and FYI, *worried* PDSer, former Governor Sarah Palin and Governor Jan Brewer, AZ have their own website promoting AZ IMMIGRATION LAWS, with which Governor Perry takes issue!
You’re too new here to know that it’s not good to try to *start* forum wars.
This is a conservative site —— the premiere conservative site and forum on the whole of the Internet, and when all the candidates have announced, there will be plenty of time for each one to articulate their very own views! No need to rely on OLD, cherry picked information posted by an pposition camper!
Thanks very much!
Palin had no problem publicly disagreeing with McCain. She certainly did so on multiple occasions regarding drilling in ANWAR. If she differed with him we would no it. She's not exactly timid.
While illegal immigration is a hot issue in Arizona, I doubt it was among the 25 top issues for a Governor of Alaska.
(Hey, if you can swim to Alaska from Mexico, nobody can say you took the easy route)

No E-Verify, no workee
No E-Verify, no welfare
Perry is very clear on where he will go with the 40 million future Democrats and union-members:
He has supported “comprehensive immigration reform” and the Dream Act.Illegals in TX. and NM both have access to grants also. He is an “integrationist”
I really believe with her statements on “path to citizenship”when she was paired with McCain that she would not do so now. The real key is the money flow. Perry’s is extremely obvious and would explain his punting on ANY ENFORCEMENT WHATSOEVER. With Sara we have a fighting chance.
I am ‘NOT’ starting wars, I don’t even post about Palin. As I said before, I like her, I just don’t think she is running.
What I am tired of is that people keep posting anti-Perry material, bashing him for his stance on immigration, when he had to contend with it in a border state, digging up and posting articles even as thread starters.
Conservatives need to have the same standards for all candidates. Is that too much to expect?
