Action is needed now to prevent nightmarish "Planet Of The Apes" science ever turning from fiction to fact, according to a group of eminent experts.
Their report calls for a new rules to supervise sensitive research that involves humanising animals.
One area of concern is "Category Three" experiments which may raise "very strong ethical concerns" and should be banned.
An example given is the creation of primates with distinctly human characteristics, such as speech.
Exactly the same scenario is portrayed in the new movie Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, in which scientists searching for an Alzheimer's cure create a new breed of ape with human-like intelligence.
The report also acknowledges the "Frankenstein fear" that humanising animals might lead to the creation of "monsters".

I think it’s a legitimate concern, because there are bioengineers who want to do things without any concern for the consequences of their actions.
The scientist is the used car salesmen of the 21 century.
Scientists have become whores.
They will promote "science" to advertise your new movie, if you ask politely.
They will pretend that Global Warming is real, if you give them grants.
They will swear that DDT is dangerous, if such a claim promotes a useful agenda.
At first, they were just starved for attention...but the real killer is probably hubris. At some point they will probably demand obeisance.
yes, I think your analogy is apt.
I’m a lot more concerned about the way animal rights activists humanize animals.
Democrat does not harm democrat... is Planet of the Apes mentality..
Wow, I thought competing against illegals was something to worries about......
darn! more democratic voters!
Some climate scientists claim that the nightmare scenario in The Day After Tomorrow is real.
Some computer scientists claim that the nightmare scenario in The Terminator and The Matrix is real.
Some biological scientists claim that the nightmare scenario in The Planet of the Apes is real.
I think the real problem here is scientists.
There is now a couple billion of these creatures, and science had nothing to do with it...They are called...
ISLAMIC MUSLIMS!
SOBERING TO THE MAX.

The problem here is not scientists, but idiots who think that they are scientists, but who actually have only a little knowledge, an over-active imagination and a feeling of superiority.
This article is not about science, it is about marketing. So some scientist comes out with a warning against category three experiments just in time for the new planet of the apes movie. How convenient, for the producers of the movie that is.
I can’t help but think of all those Greek animal-man creatures, and that advanced, but destroyed civilization Atlantis.
Just mthology though, right...
Bingo. And people are stupid enought to eat it up. Plane of the Apes, indeed.
