Here I sit. I just lost my day job, down almost 800 dollars of income a week. They "forgot" to pay me Friday (the day they let me go) even though it was payday. It's been a rough week at my personal business. A trade deal went south between a sign maker and my landlord. I'm caught in the middle with the rent bill. Wife had a mini-stroke but thankfully is doing well and is back to work.
So I was looking forward to a halfway decent weekend enjoying the 4th.
Then the wife comes home. (no. it's not a joke about her)
She tells me the story about my MIL, SIL, her Boyfriend and their kid. All 4 of them live in a 1 br apartment (Knew this) paid for by section 8 (knew this to), with cable tv, cable internet and each one has a cell phone.
she took them shopping.
SIL/boyfriend buy 200 bucks worth of video games and other worthless electronics. Stock up on high end baby crap and other things my kids never had. Push 2 carts around filling them with brand name foods and spendy meat.
Come to find out between the 4 of them they get 3000 dollars in SSI/AFDC payments And close to 1000 in food stamps while basically living rent free. (even part of the electric bill is paid) They get all this stuff even while state government is shut done.
Here I sit, sweating my butt off because I can't afford to run the a/c, no cable tv (I do have a low cost internet connection, won't support online gaming or streaming) with a wife that just recovered from a mini stroke, has type 1 and fybro, 2 autistic kids with learning disabilities and I was working 90+ hours a week trying to support all this along with paying for medical.
I am so damn close to just joining them on the dole.
MIL is disabled. she walks with a cain and has advanced fybro.
SIL is a mental case. shes had jobs, but gets fired. I can’t remember the list of things the dr says she has
Boyfriend is crippled (not not enough to not hold a game controler all day) I think it’s MS that he has.
Nephew is a perfect little boy who I am sure will be corrupted in no time.
One thing this little outing has done is proven to the wife they no longer need our help doing ANYTHING. we’d always get the phone calls at the end of the month about running out of diapers and wipes. I’ve been telling her it’s not our problem.
The Boyfriend even has a PCA that drives him around. Told the wife that PCA can take them shopping next time too.
I know I don’t get stressed out over having to go without.
Amen!
Cableguymn you are in our prayers, hang in there.
You’ve paid into the system. It’s not the dole if you get temporary support and get back on your own again.
The tenants across the hall from me were being evicted for misbehavior, noise and running a brothel/drug den (they had burned down another unit several buildings down a few months back) and were bragging to me. They’re moving to a 3 bedroom, 2 bath apartment in a nicer complex and it’ll only cost them $143/month. We pay about $750/mo., plus utilities for our crappy, roach-infested 2/1. How can you not be mad?
Most of the Texas inquiries I have been getting have been from plants on the Ship Channel. After 10 years in the Twin Cities putting up with whiney do nothing liberals, I find Deer Park and Pasedena more to my liking. I could never get used to the Minneapolis “culture” of far left liberalism. Ready to go back to the “rednecks”.
I so not believe you.
I hear you. I’m making about 30/year working 6 days a week. Then I read about the moocher collecting 42 G’s a year, child subsidy, for her 8 kids. I think,”What the hell am I working for?” Maybe we should overwhelm them with applications for OUR fair share.
October through May this year.
Then the rains started.
But, man, you are right, they are making oil, fer sure. And money too.
Some just know how to work the system. It seems like every couple of days the U.S. loses one of its treasured entrepreneurs, This one died at 25 from gunshot wounds.
It took me a couple of minutes to get it, but imagine, He’s 25 and has 3 sons and 6 daughters. Nine welfare recipients collecting $ 1500 each. That equals $13,500 a month! Now add food stamps, free medical, free school lunches, on and on and on. Now they will collect social security until they are 18! Do the math, that’s over $156,000.00 a year. And people wonder what is wrong with our country!
Its Obozo fault, and every member of Congress who allows this to happen million of times and in a thousand places. It has to stop!!!
It's Barry's system, now.
Eventually the parasitic entitlement class with the help of the ruling political class will destroy us - the productive class. Time for Atlas to shrug.
Wow Vet... bet you are glad they got the boot. Not much worse than having trashy, loud, low-life neighbors in a small apt complex.
When you subsidize something, you get more of it. In this case the government is subsidizing laziness.
Your sister and her worthless BF have turned the safety net into a hammock.
Things have changed around here. East of Houston had tremendous growth in housing and employers. Seeing many out of state plates on crowded freeways. Jobs must be really bad up north.
Meanwhile, the drug dealer next door is in prison for DUI, but he left 3-4 hookers there (who’re not on the lease) to raise money for him, I guess.
It’s all well and good to try to do it all yourself, but the bottom line is that if there are resources, and you need them, and you can have them, swallow your pride and take them.
Instead of fretting about it, put your efforts into using the resources wisely.
If you need food, get food aid and use it with a plan. That is, assume the food aid will run out with you no better off than you are right now, so buy in bulk, eat what you need, not just what tastes good, and store the rest, so you will begin to build your reserves again. It is a good project.
“...with a wife that just recovered from a mini stroke, has type 1 and fybro, 2 autistic kids with learning disabilities and I was working 90+ hours a week trying to support all this along with paying for medical.”
Sir, you need help, and not just for you, but for them. Take it while you can, because it may not be there in the future. Right now, you could work yourself to death, still not be able to provide as you would like, and they would be in terrible shape without you.
Take the aid.
Got fired March 30 and I'm still going through the "take it or not" battle, myself.
I'm not forced to respond immediately, but by winter I'll need to have decided and be in play ... or I'm screwed.
Brother ... I have been stocking up the last couple of years and I probably have 20 or 30 cases of Raman ... you can do wonderful things with that ... even a nice, crunchy snack eaten dry.
